P67A-UD4-B3 with broken socket pins (UK)
« on: December 10, 2011, 09:22:51 pm »
I purchased a whole new rig from Scan.co.uk (all parts) around 2-3 months ago.

The motherboard has 2/3 snapped pins on the CPU Socket, returned with an RMA + refused to replace/repair and I was forced to buy another motherboard, and I have this lying around the house and it cost me a fair bit of money so I would like this fixing.

What is the process of returning this to Gigabyte? Will they replace for free? Will they repair for free? I just want to know all options available to me, I personally didn't damage the socket but obviously can't prove this to Scan or Gigabyte.

Hello MiiCK and welcome.

The real problem you have under UK Consumer Law is that the contract is between you and Scan as that is where you purchased it. Firstly you say that  you have had it for several months so if there were any broken pins when you received it they would have ben very evident from the word go. Did you build all this yourself or did Scan supply it as a ready built system ?

If you built it yourself why did you not get straight onto Scan with the fault when you first installed it all ?

I received the parts in august, it was on the 18/08/2011 i got them, rang scan the very next morning and got an RMA sent off, they sent back after a week saying bent pins not their fault.. I desperately needed my system built so had to buy the motherboard while the other one was pending RMA, and told them to refund me when they find the motherboard was at fault, i received the second mobo the next day and they responded to the RMA a week later and said they would not refund me as the pins were damaged. I battled the case with them through emails and numerous phone calls but they refused, so it's sat in a draw in my house until now when I read a thread on the interweb saying that gigabyte can replace/repair etc, so that's why i've chased it up here.

Alright thankyou, will do.

I am 1000% certain I am not at fault, but I have a fully working motherboard here apart from those pins, so surely it's an easy fix, just needs a cpu socket? and instead of losing £100+ i'd rather get it fixed and recoup some money.

If they won't give me a replacement for free would they charge me a (small) fee for repairing and returning?

I really can't say what they might do as we are nothing to do with Gigabyte officially. None of us work for the company and so can't say what they might or might not do. :-\

Hi MiiCK

As you are from UK therefore there maybe possibility of repair of this socket for you arranged directly with GIGABYTE UK RMA team. But our engineers have to see it first.
Please take good resolution photo (with zoom preferably) of this whole socket and send it by email to returns@gbt-tech.co.uk with description of this problem and the link to this thread.

Thanks
ZX-S & C64 are still my favourites ;-)

I've really tried to get a good picture of it but my camera is just terrible, can't even see the problem on it..

If you check this picture (google image of my board) http://www.techreaction.net/wp-content/uploads/2011/02/P67A-UD4-9.jpg

You can see there is three screws around the socket, with the cover on top of it, if you take the cover off you can see all those brass pins (can see them through the cover in the pic), it's basically three of those pins are messed up.

Surely those three screws can be taken out and a new socket placed there? I don't know how they would fix it to be honest but i'm sure it can be done...

It basically looks like theres little holes at the end of the pins, were they go into the socket, and if you pulled a pin out there would just be a little hole where it used to be.. that's what it looks like.

Hi MiiCK

Basically describing the problem is n't going to help as the RMA team, want to see the fault for themselves and decide on whether to repair or not as the case might be. They understand what is wrong. :-\

They emailed me with 3 attachments, in one of the attachments it states that they won't replace if there's broken/missing socket pins, so.. how do I know if they're going to accept it or not? It was an automated email I got soo...
