GA790XT-UD4P - can not boot / can not shotdown
« on: December 13, 2011, 12:31:58 pm »
I had this motherboard (790XT-UD4P) for about two and half years, no problems at all during all this time.

Now it seem that the board died, ...when pressing the start button all the lights go on, fans start spinning,
however, the board does not boot at all. I connected the case speaker, but it is silent during the boot
...according to the manual it should beep once if boot is successful

Also, I can not turn off the computer if start button is help for a while ...I must turn off the power supply.

I tried Clear Cmos but it is the same.

This happened also few days ago, but after I turned power supply off, and waiting for about one hour,
the computer turn on without problem. Yesterday, it seem like the boot time is slightly longer, today it
does not turn on whatever I do.

Any advice? Thanks!

Hi there,

it would help if you could post back with your full system specs and hardware. Although your problem could be with the motherboard it could also just as equally be another component on your system causing the issue and the more information you can supply, the easier it will be to help.
Remember, when all else fails a cup of tea and a good swear will often help! It won't solve the problem but it will make you feel better.

Cpu: Phenom II X4 970T (E0 - Zosma)
Board: MA790XT-UD4P (latest F8 bios)
Memory: 2x 2GB Patriot G-Series (1333 @ 6-6-6-20 / 1.75v)
Video: Sapphire 6850 1GB card
SSD: Crucial M4 64GB
HDD: Samsung F3 500GB + Samsung F1 640GB
Power Supply: Corsair HX750W

CPU and Video card are water cooled.

All things, but the CPU, have been running in this system for more then half a year. CPU was upgraded around
two weeks ago ...but aside from this the system has been running ok with the new CPU, no BSODS or any other problem.

It is strange that the system can not be turned off after holding the start button on the case? This has always
worked when I needed to turn of the system in a hurry.
