GA-H55M-USB3 PCIe slot1 Grahpics only or not?
« on: September 03, 2010, 01:20:40 pm »
Is the first x16 slot graphics only or could i use it for example for a framegrabber card while using the onboard video?

You can use any PCIe card in any slot. The only thing is that some are faster than others, but in your case go ahead.

You can only use the onboard video with the right CPU.

sorry but I have the same problem. I got a GA-H55M-usb3 (rev2.0) with a gainward GTX460 SE 1GB DDR5 card. the computer can boot with the card at PCI E slot near the CPU, and both windows/linux works fine. But if I moved the card to the PCI E farer away, the broad just give a 1 long 2 short beep signaling graphic card problem and load OS as usual with a blank screen. I have to memorize all the keys needed to turn off it. That is really problematic. Becasue the slot near CPU is not good for cooling, I am considering to use the farer slot. But the mother broad seems just doesn't support it.

In theory the slot shjoulkd support the card as long as it has enoiugh bandwidth. Certain slots appear to be x16 but are in actual connections are a x4 or x8. All GPUs should work in an x8 slot but maybe not an x4. I have heard before that certain boards don't seem to support graphics cards in the lower slots but I can't say why that should be. :-\
