Will the ga-x38-ds4 be able to take 16gb ram, even though the specs say a maximum of 8gb ram?

Hi and welcome.

Often in these cases the limit was defined because of what was available at the time not what was possible. Thye only way to be really sure is to try but it might be worth checking to see if anyone else has already tried and posted on the forum.

Hi midrange,  ;)

If you have a chance to try in a store, it's more secure.
In this situation, you are not losing. Neither you nor the store.
Try to store the DDR2-1600 Mhz.

Yes, that is probably the safest way if you have a fairly friendly computer store near you somewhere. Take the system box in and ask them to try  the bigger modules.
