I heard that 5.1 systems are mostly for games and movies. I watch movies on my plasma TV and I m not so much into gaming.
So I go for 2.0/2.1, right? If I can put subwoofer on the desk then I prefer to go for 2.1

The brand is not important. Exept if there are speakers designed for my soundcard(Creative SB X-Fi Extreme Audio pci_xpress_x1).

The two 2.0 speakers u suggested me, look like cheap and s**t :)
They look like this one system, which I already have --> http://reviews.logitech.com/7061/214/logitech-x-140-speakers-reviews/reviews.htm
(no link form in this forum?)
Until now I had this system --> http://www.google.gr/search?q=creative+t7900&hl=el&prmd=imvns&tbm=isch&tbo=u&source=univ&sa=X&ei=ADoHT7eOB6eK4gTS3Z3hBA&ved=0CCsQsAQ&biw=1536&bih=716
which was very good, so I woudnt get something cheaper and weaker.

Sorry thought you were looking for cheap (inexpensive).

I have AWA speakers 7.1 system my monitor is LCD 27' plus an amplifier you ought to hear the sound.

Another speaker system is the JBL Creature lll, not to everyone's taste but I almost bought them myself,( my partner hated them) there about $160 (AUS) over here.

The main problem is there are many speaker system's out there, & really it comes down to you in the end, everyone has their preferences.

2.1 is the better for what you want as I use mine mainly for music/videos.

You can spend anything from$2 to $$$$$$$ for a speaker system but in the end you have to decide.

Hopefully you find what you are looking for, if you do please let us know.

Happy speaker hunting.

If u had read this thread u would know that I m talking only for quality speakers.
So, u have 7.1? But do u spread them normaly? I had removed 2 from mine so that became 5.1
My monitor is LED 22" but monitor hasnt something to do with speakers or sound.
Does subwoofer damage pc when on table?
You know, there are some speakers which make a "fffssssssss" even when pc is off :) Does this JBL Creature lll makes such sound? (although its only 25w and looks like octapus, so I wouldnt buy it)

Yes I got the quality part, as for my monitor I use it mainly for watching movies I have a 2nd one 18' that I use primary for internet, word-processing etc.

I know that Creative do pretty good speakers ( Creative GigaWorks T3 2.1-CH PC multimedia speaker sys - 80 Watt  $250), as do Bose (Companion 20 $400), but it all comes down to aesthetics plus ease of use, do you need a remote control  or an attached controller, no controller just an on/off switch with volume control at the back of the speaker?

As to how my speakers are positioned;

I have the sub woofer to the right of my chair under the desk. (my desk is comprised of 2 glass tops 1 is about 1 metre long  while the other is 1.5 metres my wall is just under 3 metres long)

I have shelves at the top there are 2 speakers 1 at each corner & a middle speaker in the middle, on my desk another 2 speakers L/R on my desk.

At my rear I have 2 speakers mounted on the wall corners wires going through the ceiling.

I don't have the sub woofer on my table no space, as I have my monitors, computer case,printer,amplifier/receiver,scanner, plus other items.

As for the fffsssss sound I believe this has been fixed with modern speaker systems, could be sound card related to.

Whichever brand you decide on if you are paying the big $$$$ you should get good quality plus if it does play up you still have your warranty

Instead of all this description, why dont u take a photo and upload it?  :)

I dont want any remote control. It will be pc speakers. I checked that Creative GigaWorks T3 2.1-CH, the 2 satelites look like small.
So, u have your subwoofer under he desk. I ll prefer to put mine on the desk, so that the downstairs neighbor wont listen :-\
I listen every day (classical)music and, u know, usually volume must be high :)

They have told me for specific models (some new Logitech ones) which really make ffsssss.
Warranty wont cover any fffsssss :)

120€+  are really expensive for a 2.0 system, but price is not my point.
These speakers look good but have no sub. Is this problem? What does a subwoofer offers more? I ll save space on my desk, but do I lose something without subwoofer?

The Logitech X-530 5.1 system is cheaper(about 80€). Newegg users say that its very good.
Is this T40 better than  Χ-530?

I just bought the Creative Gigaworks T40 Series II  :)

Really good bass for a 2.0 system.

Theres indeed a small 'ffffs' if u turn the volume buttom to maximum, but noone will hear it. I can hear it because theres no any other sounds in my fanless system.
I m happy that I got rid of the subwoofer, even if I had to pay 131€  ::)

Glad to hear you finally got your speakers, I did look at them (T40s) but the review I read said they had problems with a misaligned switch, could be a one off, it's just that if I hear/read about these things they make me wary about the product.

Anyway hope you enjoy them.

In NewEgg I saw many reviews about strange buttons, annoying led, short cable etc. But major point is the performance of this too expensive set.
I had to get a 2.0 set and after many reviews I read this one seems to be the best.
