Which motherboard do you own? I have only seen the 1055T .

Interms of memory have a look at these configurators from Corsair and Crucial:

No probs....if you use either of the configurators I have listed you will be able to select your RAM modules....I have just used the Corsair Memory configurator for your motherboard and there is quite a selection.... so explore and see which ones you want for your system.

If you are in the UK then Scan have the 1055T...here:

I'm sure there are others....hope this helps.

Hi cookiebun,

I've had a good look around and can't find the 1090 or 1100 processors anywhere in the UK from my usual sources. This would fit with the reports that AMD have stopped producing them.

I did find several options on ebay but these were from retailers in France, Germany, Italy and other EU countries so if you have your heart set on one of these processors then this might be your best bet.

The 1055 wouldn't  be an improvement over the existing CPU they are using, despite the fact that the 1005 is a hex core it has a much lower clock speed v the quad core 965.

There are some on ebay....some secondhand....not sure on the warranty it that situation and returning the component if it is purchased in the EU or elsewhere. If there are no 1100T's....then that is the only 6 core if cookiebun wants a 6 core.

UPDATE

@Cookiebun....have a look at this link:

Hi cookiebun,

I was recently asked (just before Christmas) to build a new PC for one of my friends. I did a lot of digging around and for the price that they wanted to spend I put together an Intel system better and cheaper than I could an AMD version.

AMD have dropped a swathe of Phenom processors in favour of the FX chips they have recently released and sadly I have to say that, at the present time, the CPU you currently have is better in most ways than the others that are available. Although there should be some new revision FX Chips coming along in a couple of months, there is no guarantee that these will be better than those already available.

Based on the current situation I switched to an Intel system using the i5 2500k CPU and it has really impressed me. And, if you haven't already done so, have a look here: http://forum.giga-byte.co.uk/index.php/topic,7603.msg60247.html#msg60247 as it might help you with your decision making of which way to go.

Ah cookiebun, I'm sure Dark Mantis will have read this by now.

I am sure that other's with more experience of the Intel platform will offer different advice but personally I wouldn't go for the i7 2600 although it is a good CPU.

Why's that?
Well, if you want to have the opportunity to overclock and get even more speed for your money then you really need to go for one of the processors that end with the letter "k" as these have unlocked multipliers (like the Black Edition AMD Processors) and this makes O/C'ing that much easier. I settled on the i5 2500k partly because it was given to me as a thank you (although I was offered other's) and also because it had the unlocked multiplier. The i5 2500K is currently around £40 - £50 cheaper than the i7 2600 (locked multiplier) and about £60 cheaper than the i7 2600k. The only real difference between the i5 and i7 chips is the base speed of the CPU's with the i5 2500 (k) being 3.3GHz and the i7 2600(k) running at 3.4GHz

As you know, in my AMD system I have the Phenom ii x6 1090T and although it was good the i5 2500k is so much nippier and faster in almost everything I have tested. When it came to O/C'ing I had to settle on 3.8GHz with the 1090T but have already got 4.6GHz from the 2500k without any major issues.

As with all things, Intel are planning on releasing new CPU's so there will be those that advise waiting and seeing what the new crop of processors can do. But, from my own experience I would say go for the i5 2500k now, as I am sure you won't regret it.

The new Ivybridge has a lower TDP and improved graphics.

As absic has just been telling you cookiebun the i5 2500K is probably the best bang for buck at the moment and will usually overclock better then the i7 2600K even, as is often the case. The i5 is limited to the four physical cores though whereas the i7 has four virtual cores as well giving a total of eight which can be usefull if you require a multithreading CPU  but as I mentioned this often limits the overclocking ability.
