How to check if I'm still eligible for a warranty/RMA claim
« on: January 13, 2012, 07:23:19 pm »
Hello everyone, I am from Bangladesh and I own a Gigabyte GA-EP45C-DS3R (which was originally bought my elder brother who moved to the United States of America) for two years now and I no longer have the original receipt of purchase, or records of from which store it was bought, but I do have the original box that came with the motherboard, and the I/O shield, the motherboard recently died as all the phase LED on it stays lit and it won't post no matter what, the motherboard is not physically damage and I was wondering if I'm eligible to claim warranty/RMA of it still? I can provide the serial number of the motherboard if asked. Regards.

Hi and welcome.

The bad news I'm afraid is that if the computer was purchased in the USA it will only be covered by the warranty assuming it is even still covered back in the USA. Sorry.

Thank you for the welcome and the lightning fast response, and on topic, the motherboard wasn't bought from USA, my bro bought it from Bangladesh before he left for USA, he handed the system (including the motherboard) to me before leaving, so the purchase place is indeed Bangladesh, and the retailers/dealers here aren't too keen nor too cooperative in matters like these, they only started providing three years of warranty on Gigabyte motherboards only since last year and two years on Graphics Cards (previously mobos had only two years and graphics cards had on year warranty periods) so you can see I'm at a loss here, I'm willing to pay for shipping and if necessary for the RMA but I need this board working again as I can't afford nor can I find a mobo of similar quality here.

Sorry that I misunderstood but the information remains the same. The motherboard should be covered for three years from the date of manufacture. This is readable on the serial number sticker. It will be in the format of year/week so if the serial number was 0926123456 it would be the June of 2009 (the 26th week).

You could contact your local service centre or GGTS for help.

Thank you for your kind response, the serial is 0830... I guess that makes the board unacceptable for RMA claims, but can I have it repaired?

I would agree that is the case. You would have to talk to GGTS or myour local office to find out if they would be willing to do a repair on it. I think the cost might make it uneconomical though.

Thank you for your kind response! I was thinking of switching to a different brand this time, but the responsiveness of this forum is making me stick to Gigabyte again for the time being.

Well I am glad that we have been able to persuade you to stay with Gigabyte at least. ;)

In the long run I think that repairs to an old board wouldn't be worthwhile as you could purchase a new board with many new features for not very much money. Admitttedly you would have to also buy a new CPU etc to go with it but at least then you would be up to date  and good for another few years with a warranty too.

in country like india we get any  mother board atleast 6 to 8 months latter of manufacturing. so the customers here loose atleast 6 moths of warrenty as a policy gigabyte warrenty.
it sud be covered from the purchased date

Hi

I understand your feelings and to be perfectly honest I agree with you that any warranty should start at the date of purchase. However that is not the case and Gigabyte offer the extra warranty, over and above the 12 months, starting from the date of manufacture. As this is an extra period I don't think that there can be any argument over it.
