Hi,

I am trying to build a new pc. Here are the specs.
ga-970a-ud3 motherboard
gskill f3-12800cl8d-8gbxm 1600 4096x4
ultra 1000 watt sli power supply
fx 8120 cpu
Gigabyte hd 7970

I cant get the motherboard to make any beeps what so ever. I unplugged everything but the power, no ram, no cpu, and no beeps. I put in just 1 stick of ram and no beeps, I have put in just the cpu and no beeps, I have put in my old cpu an phenom 2 black edition and no beeps, I hav etried 2 sticks of ram and no beeps. I hav eleft a jumper on the clear cmos overnight with the battery out and it wont beep. Wont beep, wont display. I have built probably 10 pc and I am really gettin frustrated with this one. I have also tried my old video card an nvidia 470 card and still no post or display.

Hi there,

sorry to see you are having problems.

First thing to ask is do you have a motherboard speaker attached to hear the POST Beep(s) and if the answer to this is yes, are you sure it is connected the right way around?

What Phenom ii CPU have you tried to get the PC to POST?

Is the motherboard inside the PC Case? If yes, try removing it and placing it on a cardboard box to eliminate the possibility of a short occurring.

Have you connected ALL of the necessary power connectors to the motherboard and possibly the Graphics card too?

The cpu was a phenom 2 hdz955fbk4dgi.

Does the original bios on the board support the phenom 2 955 black? I hav eread that you need to update the bios to be able to use the am3+. thats why I used the 955 black.

Well the Phenom ii 955 should work OK if it was a BIOS issue with the FX8120.

And the lack of a motherboard speaker would explain why you are not hearing any POST Beeps.

Do you have a different Graphics card to try? The reason I say this is because the 7970 is a new GPU and if the motherboard shipped with earlier BIOS it might not recognise it properly.

Ok. The beeps led me to the video card so i changed one of the power rails to the card and bingo it worked. Used the phenom 2 to flash the bios to the newer version and put in my 8 core and everything is working thanks
