GA-X79-UD7 overclocking problem

Hi!

I have overclocked my 3930k to 4.4 GHz and it works fine. The problem I have is when I coldboot the computer it almost always gets into bios and says it could not boot because of overclocking. But if I set the same values again for speed and volts etc it works just fine in both windows and linux under load. It also works just fine to reboot the computer and bios doesnt complain.

But if I now leave the computer off for the night and boot it up agon next day its the same story again! Am I missing some bios setting or what could be the problem?

Ps The bios hangs when I have my Saitek joystick plugged in on usb

   Egon2003 .... Welcome

     If you have the joy stick connected to a USB3 port....change to a USB2 and try again......if no joy ..... UN-instal USB3 drivers temporarily keeping the joy stick in the USB2 and try again ..... after trying these two ..... report back with your findings.

I have only tried USB2, will try a USB3 port when I get home tonight.

Also if you are not using the ESATA ports disable them as well in the BIOS.

Will do as I am not using esata. Did you mean that as a reply for the overclocking problem or the joystick problem?

No I was referring to the problem with the joystick but you never know it might help both.  

Regarding the OC issue try syncronising your two BIOS versions and clearing the CMOS (extended)

There is no esata on this MB and no such option in the bios as far as I can tell.

It does not help to use a USB3 port, same error. I have a correction though, the computer boots witj the joystick plugged in, the problem occurs when entering bios setup. If I plug in the joystick when in bios setup it also hangs.

What is your Exact OS system? Like a Windows 7 x64bits...

What are the Gigabyte's utility softwares have you installed on system?

And give us a list of Gigabyte's Drivers installed on your system...

My OS in Win 7 x64 and Linux x86_64. I have not installed any Gigabyte software at all only the drivers needed. The joystick works in Windows so all is well there

Both problems I have have nothing to do with the OS though as I cannot get into the bios in one case and a warning that overclock failed although it obviously works if I set all values and dont shut the computer off. The bios prints this before it tries to boot the system and gives me the option to use failsafe values or enter the bios.

I suppose you try to use a Advanced Mode in UEFI Bios?

have you check if there is something in  ''boot services" and "runtime services" ... causing the problem...

UEFI does not specify how POST & Setup are implemented. UEFI is an interface.

The UEFI Bios have just a standard USB drivers...

So when you plug a device in usb port AND if the Device need a drivers ( the device drivers needed to run).
 It will never work I think before the operating system is loaded.

Otherwise for oc your system ... remove a device from usb port... boot to Post and (try if possible connected a Device on USB port Just before OS system procédure started... ( Check if is okay for your mobo ... connected to usb in this condition) ... Maybe wait a comments by other members...
