GA-Z68XP-UD4 can't install win xp
« on: January 22, 2012, 02:48:02 am »
Hello,

I'm new on the forum and would like to get some help and get mine problem fixed.
I've put mine own PC together with an Gigabyte GA-Z68XP-UD4 mobo and Intel 2500k processor. I have used Windows 7 couple weeks but decided to get Windows XP on it since its better for the games that i play.
I tried to install Windows XP but i failed with it, after booting via mine DVD ROM it starts to copy the files to the system once its done it reboots and the PC gets stuck at "Loading Operating System" this happend several times. So i started to look into the manual that came with the motherboard and it says that i have to put the "Intel Z68" SATA RAID/AHCI driver from the Gigabyte GA-Z68XP-UD4 cd to an USB Floppy Disk and press F6 before Windows XP starts to copy the files. I did that and got to the Third Party Driver installation but i couldn't see any lists of Drivers that i copied to the USB.

Mine question is, how can i fix this problem? I got sick of it, been playing around with mine pc for 1 day now and still can't install windows xp.

All help will be appreciated.

Regards,
Ali

I had this problem once on a laptop, I used nLite to add the drivers to the XP installer. Check http://www.digitgeek.com/how-to-slipstream-sata-drivers-into-xp-cd/ to learn how to do it.

Which games?  I've had very few (count'em on one hand, going back to early nineties) not work in Win7 (but they did in linux).  I have the same board and CPU and XP would totally gimp it.

Alternatively, you can:
1. Boot, go to BIOS and set "PCH SATA Control Mode" from AHCI to IDE.
2. Install windows xp (you won't need ahci drivers at this point)
3. Install all intel chipset drivers (Intel INF installation, Intel® Rapid Storage Technology, Intel Management Engine Interface)
4. When finished, reboot, go to BIOS and change "PCH SATA Control Mode" back to AHCI.

If you are trying to use a USB drive try a different one, generally smaller around 2GB, and make sure it is connected to the rear USB2.0 port and not via a hub.

I've tried this today after the installation it says that "It cannot load Operating System" i've a Dutch Windows XP with SP2 and an English Windows XP with SP2 both gives the same error.

decided to get Windows XP on it since its better for the games that i play.

I'm playing Call of Duty 1/2/4/MW3. There are some tools that only works on Windows XP, like Accerlation fix for the mouse and alot people told me that the fps in cod4 with xp is more stable than windows 7.

If you are trying to use a USB drive try a different one, generally smaller around 2GB, and make sure it is connected to the rear USB2.0 port and not via a hub.
I'm using a 1GB USB drive, and also connected to USB2.0 port but still doesn't work.

I really can't see how your FPS would be better.  You'd only be using 3GB of your 8GB RAM, which would kill texture swapping performance.

The "people who told" you that xp performance was better probably didn't have new enough systems (slow C2D and < 4GB RAM, for instance).

In the time you spend on xp, you could install Win7 and your games and test them.
