P2532N Keyboard
« on: January 27, 2012, 12:32:03 pm »
Hi, First of all I have to say my P2532N rates as my all time favourite laptop ever, and I've owned a few I can tell you ;D

Only downside is that when my colleague ordered us a couple he managed to order from a supplier than seemed to think we were Danish so they arrived with Danish Windows installed and Danish keyboards. Now the Windows wasn't a problem but the keyboard is a somewhat trickier issue to resolve, luckily it's roughly QWERTY but things like the @ sign are weirdly accessed via Alt Gr combinations (how do the Danish get on with sending e-mails?) as are things like  [ ] { and } which makes life a bit tedious for a programmer who has been typing on English and US keyboard layouts for the past 30 years.

Having spoken to the UK Authorised Service Centre and received a rather vague, "We'll see what we can do" response, I just wondered whether anybody here might have a suggestion of where I might be able to purchase a couple of replacement keyboards?

Thanks in advance,
         Steve

  Hi Steve and welcome

For what it's worth .... I have a Toshiba lapie as a work horse for posting and what not .... but hate the keyboard ..... while in Thailand last year
I started using a wireless keyboard at one of the INTERNET cafes .... I was sold in less than 20 seconds....

The one I purchased as soon as I returned to the UK was in fact an apple wireless keyboard ....the key pad looks and feels light years ahead with one of the smoothest key strokes you can buy

I have also replaced my other keyboards around the house with a similar (cheap copy off Ebay) and land them for under 20 odd pounds .... I can sit with a flat keyboard on the edge of the table and have the screen set as far back as I please ...... you may want to investigate one with a numeric keypad though being a programmer ...... turning caffeine into code .... num pads are nice to have  ;)

Yes I would agree with Allan. The amount of wireless keyboards around now give you a terrific choice and I never use the onboard keyboard/mouse as I find them so crap in general.

Hello Steve,

I had the same problem with a T1125N. The supplier, to his credit, offered to take it back but in in the end he sent me an English copy of Windows 7 which I installed with no problems.
I don't know if your machine has a touch screen, but you can set up the on screen keyboard to just about any configuration you fancy.
I usually have my  machine in its docking station with a slave monitor when I'm not working away from home.
I bought a Perixx bluetooth keyboard on Amazon for about 25 quid, and it works a treat.
I'm not an expert typist (one finger on each hand!!!) so I can't comment from the point of view of an ace typist.

While I'm on the subject of bluetooth, I got a bluetooth mouse and its a waste of time. I believe this is a known problem with 64 bit Windows 7. Has anyone got any ideas?

Cheers  Rog

I see what everyone means regarding wireless keyboards but sadly that would end up being just another thing to wedge into my laptop bag (along with serial cables, network cables, usb external disks etc etc etc), I guess I'll just have to pesterthe UK service centre on an ongoing basis to see if they can come up with the parts.

Thanks for the comments folks.

Cheers,
     Steve

Understand your view ...... question, besides the software, is the physical QWERTY keyboard the root of the problem ..... if yes, ... you could have a hunt on Ebay .....amazing what actually ends up there for a song, you just might be lucky and pick one up for a fiver!

Nice idea Allan, unfortunately I can buy another laptop but not much in the way of spares showing at the moment, still worth keeping an eye on if all else fails :)

Something I do occasionally when times isn't too important is setup email notification from ebay with a tight criteria on the search request

  Just a thought!
