undervolting sandybridge

Hi saving power is not what it is about i just want to do it i have done the overclocking thing for years but no longer need the extra performance that gives as although i only have an I3 2120 in pc at moment it copes with everything i need plays Battlefield 3,Skyrim, no problem only use pc for searching the net or gaming dont think i could save much power with the 2120 anyway as have just had a run on Prime95 and although the 2120 is classed as a 65w cpu it only uses 35w full load under Prime95 just asking for advice so i dont end up wasting money buying a board unsuitable for what i want

The 65W spec is TDP (Thermal Design Point), which refers to cooling, not power consumption.

I don't know why you don't feel like you've been helped; as I explained, if you want to run near/outside any tolerances, a board with a more robust CPU power delivery will probably increase your chances.

Realistically, nobody will be able to tell you "buy x board and you'll succeed".

    I think what most are delicately saying is ... you get what you pay for .... regardless of the product ..... spending more will buy quality, and it's quality you need to clock or undervolt ..... they go hand in hand.

  Make a list of the features you don't need ......and with the list of boards thats left ..... buy the most expensive one you can afford!

Looks like i wont be buying a P67 board after all best i have come up with is the GA P67X UD3 B3 does not appear to be many Gigabyte P67 boards on the market as least with the big online sellers so most likely end up with a Z68 shall look at some boards tonight and decide as i need board soon as possible thanks for all your replies

I don't know why anyone who doesn't already have a P55 wouldn't go Z68; I really like the Intel SRT caching.

Rolo42 did not mean i was not getting help what i know about sandybridge boards is next to nothing same about the difference between P67 Z68 i thought  the Z68 was same as P67 but had the extra function of overclocking the on chip graphics looks like i got a bit more searching to do on the net learn about this caching

Just been reading about ISRT  wont be needing it as i have an ssd allready and am planing on buying a larger one in next few weeks but still looks like i will buy a Z68 if i cannot find a better quality P67
Thanks for the push Rolo42 if you had not mentioned ISRT  i would not have bothered to read about it think i am way behind on what a modern motherboard can do got a lot more reading to do on this subject.

Yes, Z68 eliminates the "either-or" of P and H chipsets.

I have a 128GB m4 SSD; 64GB (max) is for SRT caching and the remainder is my Windows system/boot disk.  I have a 2TB HDD, 1.3TB full, so all-SSD won't be for a while yet.  The caching really makes HDD access minimal.

P67 is EOL, you will need to buy used or buy a new Z68 instead
