Did you connect the TV to the VGA connector or are you using a video card?

If the former, you'll have to connect your LINE OUT to the TV (or receiver) as well; if the latter, you may have to use an internal cable to connect the video card's HDMI audio to the motherboard.

im using the HDMI socket on my video card,  i had a quick look at the video card there is a small white connector on it, where on the motherboard should i plug it in, i already have the cable that connects the front jacks of my case plugged into the motherboard audio socket.

Momentary Lapse of Reason: you aren't using SPDIF; the audio should come from the bus.  This should help:

Since you had the HDMI output option and (it vanished?), check your HDMI connection to the TV.

not sure what to do now :(   anyway  main problem is,  on my old motherboard there was a white spdif socket and i had a thin cable connected from my video card to motherboard, but on the new gigabyte motherboard there is no white spdif socket on it,  and when i plug a hdmi cable to the video card ant then into the tv. the video is good but no sound, then i go to the playback tab on my sound settings it only has one device and thats the speakers for my pc,  and im  running windows 7,  sorry if i missed something, i am quiet new to all this :)

I haven't used HDMI yet, so take what I say lightly.

I think the internal SPDIF connection is when you want to use SPDIF externally.  I think the normal HDMI audio comes from the PCIe bus, no other internal connection is necessary. The linked article suggested a below spec HDMI cable can cause the problem you're having.  Support for your video card may be more useful if you don't get any help here.

Hi and welcome Welshy.

Audio isn't my strong point so don't expect miracles but Rolo is correct you don't require a seperate SPDIF cable to use the HD sound via HDMI output as the port/cable transfers sound as well as video. Have you made sure that you have all the right drivers installed for the audioo side ?

Check the version of your HDMI cable (1.4b etc), going to control panel>sound on win 7 will show all devices, right click in the box and show disabled/disconnected devices, see if it brings it up, if you have nvidia graphics go into the nvidia control panel and see if when plugged in it recognises your tv..

checked the drivers. downloaded the drivers off the gigabyte website for my motherboard, and its still the same. went into control panel then sound and it only has my speakers for the device, tried right clicking in the box  checked and unchecked the 2 boxes  show disabled devices and show disconnected devices and still nothing :(   also went on to my nvidia control panel  it shows my  samsung  tv  and under connector it say  HDMI - HDTV  Audio Enabled. so i have no idea what im doing wrong .

Can you list your hardware please as that might shed some light on the problem.

What GPU are you using as the HD audio will come directly from that.
