Do you have the nVidia High-Def Audio driver installed with the video driver?

Does it show in Device Manager?

Install the 285.62 driver (or later, if you're inclined to run betas) from www.nvidia.com -  select custom install to ensure the HD audio driver installs.  The Windows update driver is a bare-bones version.

It sounds to me as if you haven't got the full driver set installed just the video driver. Make sure that you have downloaded and installed al the drivers.

Nuts.

Try installing it without the HDMI cable connected (assuming you have another display).

Well I don't think it would make any difference anyway but it is for the onboard RealTek audio. Just clutching at straws to be honest.

you guys sure the spdif socket on the video card has nothing to do with it, on my last motherboard im quiet sure there was a wire connecting from the  spdif on the video card to the spdif on the motherboard, and it worked then :(   just on my new motherboard there is no spdif socket

There is no reason to have a SPDIF connection to the motherboard as far as I know. The audio should be transferred down the bus and then via the HDMI cable which carries audio and video.

maybe my video  card doesn't  support doing it that way.  might depend on the spdif connection,   NVIDIA 9600 GS just a guess :(

The absence of the HD Audio driver lets me think you are correct.
