880GMA-UD2H -- Issue, non-functional optical outputl with HDMI HD enabled

880GMA-UD2H

I have an issue where I cannot get optical output from the optical receiver attached to the back of the 880GMA-UD2H board. Windows 7 64-bit home premium indicates no issues with drivers, and all drivers are up-to date from the gigabyte support site. I cannot even find the REALTEK audio chip information, which leads me to believe it is integrated on the AMD SB850 chip.

It appears to me that the ATI HD and RealTek audio devices are working against each other for usage. If I disable the REALTEK  Digital Audio Optical Output.. I can hear and playback Movies and music on the HDMI cable.

THERE IS no cable issue as my HD LIVE uses this cable on the system to playback movies and audio in full surround sound via the optical audio cable.

If anyone can help please let me know... one reason I purchase the board was support for optical and HDMI for my home theater system. Heck Gigabyte provides a HOME THEATER sticker with the 880GMA-UD2H.

** Please see attachment to see the specific area of issue.

you can only have default sound from 1 item at a time if you are listening to your realteck then that should be default, Also you can only have 1 optical output going at a time. If you are playing movies thru the optical and have it set to default can you hear them, unless of course you are using an external player for dvd movies thru the hdmi cable then it should be default.

Now i could be wrong someone somewhere might have actually gotten it to work thru some unknown way to me.

Go it to work, by adjusting to default, and notice that optical output to player volume decrease to zero.. one of those change things.. connecting out to the external audio system.

Correct, you do have to select one default for either HDMI audio or optical audio.

Thx.
