EP45-UD3L Bad Ram Slot?

Just put together the system listed in my signature.  When I put the 2GBx1 Mushkin ram into the #1 ram slot I kept getting blue screens and reboots.  When I moved it to the #2 ram slot it works fine.  Do I have a bad ram slot and should I replace the mobo?  I almost got another ram module of the same type because I thought it was a bad ram module...guess I should have gotten two 1GB ram modules instead of one 2GB?  Though I am pretty familiar with computers and their components as I have worked them for the last 25 years,  this the first computer I have ever built from scratch...every thing seemed to go pretty smooth except I received a DOA PSU and the problem described above.  Any thoughts or suggestions greatly appreciated.

Two sticks of ram would have allowed you to run dual channel but that is about all.

I would check to see if the other slots work fine - in case you do decide to go dual channel at some point in the future. In the manual I think it is section 1.4 (or close to that), there is a diagram showing which slots to use for single or dual channel.

That Psu that was DOA did you connect it and try to boot from it?
If so, was the memory in slot one?

Do you have the ram in the right slots? i.e the same coloured slots, if you haven't this will cause the problems you have described!

If you have put them in the correct slots, try running memtest86 on 1 stick of ram at a time, then you will know if you have faulty ram or not, it's more than likely gonna be the ram than the actual slot.

Well it was not the ram slot as I am experiencing random reboots no matter what slot I put the ram in.  I have not been able to keep the system stable using the original ram I purchased (Mushkin 1066 2gbx1) or an additional pair of sticks I bought (OCZ 1066 2gbx2).  With both ram I tried setting the timings to the recommended settings and leaving it on auto but neither worked.  I no longer get a blue screen it just randomly begins rebooting...very frustrating.  Do you think it is the mobo?  Any help getting my system stable would be greatly appreciated.

Oh, and yes the ram was in slot 1 when the  DOA PSU was turned on.

Board is less than 3 years old yes?

The board is one week old purchased from Newegg. I will return it to them since it has been less than 30 days.  I already ordered another board last night...and Asus P5Q Pro Turbo.  I was hoping to get this one running as I like the board and it's bios tweaking capabilities.  So you think it is the board eh?  Maybe I'll just RMA it to Newegg and get another...I dunno

Oh, somethiing I just remembered...when I received this board from Newegg it had the F6 bios in it, the F6 bios isn't even listed as a bios for for this board so I flashed it to the F7 bios.  I'm thinkin' this board may have been RMA'd before though it was sold as new and not an open box...I'll have to explain that to Newegg when I RMA it!

It is acceptable for you to flash your bios to the latest version, as long as it was with the gigabyte tools and correctly carried out,
Cannot see any reason for them to refuse to exchange it,
Give them all available information certainly,

The flash to F7 bios was extremely easy using Gigabyte's Q-Flash app, a usb memory stick, and the help of a Gigbyte technician over the telephone.  I really like not having to go into to DOS or a windows program to flash.  Fantastic customer service...didn't have to wait more than one or two minutes on the telephone for a technician, a real plus for the company and it's products in my oopinion!

Flashing the wrong BIOS onto the motherboard would have borked the board completely, so I think you can rule that out as a cause, it could of been a beta bios that was later not released.
