FX-7770 zerocore problem?
« on: March 25, 2012, 08:32:25 am »
Basically here's my situation: I bought a Gigabyte 7770 GPU, replaced my old 5770 and discovered that when the screens are set to go off the computer now freezes. I'm running the 12.2 drivers, mobo at this stage was a Gigabyte 790FX with a Phenom 9600 and 4GB of Corsair RAM. To note, it had no trouble turning the screens off with the 5770.

As I intended to run these in crossfire I bought a second Gigabyte 7770. I then tested that on its own and found the PC also froze when screens turned off. So I upgraded to the F2 bios and still had the problem. Same issue when the second card was upgrade. The mobo bios and drivers were also fully updated.

My next phase was to upgrade the rest of my computer this week once stock of FX-6200's were available. So I now have a Gigabyte 990FX mobo, 16GB of Mushkin RAM and the new CPU. I performed a clean install of Windows 7, updated to the F4 mobo bios and latest drivers etc. To my surprise it still freezes if the screens are set to go off... Is this a 7770 issue, specific to Gigabyte 7770's or even the batch both my cards came from? Any ideas would be gratefully received. Also my PSU is an Antec CP 1000w and the PC is completely stable under stress testing etc, with freezing/crashing only occurring when the screens are set to go off.

I'm having the same issue with my Gigabyte 7770 (regular, not the OC version). I have an MSI ED55 motherboard and a Core i5-2400 CPU, so we don't have anything else in common, just the video card. For now I just set it to fall asleep instead of turning off the screen and that works.

Hi both of you and welcome to the Gigabyte UK Forum.

All I can suggest is that you make sure that you have the latest motherboard BIOS, graphics card BIOS(firmware) and the newest driver pack. At least once you have done all that we can maybe move on from there.

Dear Gigabyte Team,
are you going to solve this problem? Or should I return the card?

Good news, Gigabyte provided me with a beta F3 BIOS for the 7770 and that has fixed these crashing issues for me. I'm sure it will be released soon, but otherwise contact technical support and request the file: r777d5gd.f3_a, once flashed to the new BIOS your system should be stable too. Given technical support turn around is about a week you're welcome to PM with your email and I can forward the F3 firmware to you.

Dear Gigabyte Team,
are you going to solve this problem? Or should I return the card?

I am afraid that you need to go elsewhere if you want to talk to the Gigabyte Team. This forum is populated by Gigabyte owners and other interested parties but not Gigabyte support staff in general. You can contact them here :

Please expect several days for a reply.
