X79-UD5 on Windows 7 x64 - no sound
« on: April 02, 2012, 12:36:03 pm »
Fresh install of Windows 7 x64 on an X79-UD5. After flashing BIOS to latest released, things are pretty stable, but sound simply doesn't work. Device Manager shows one functional "High Definition Audio Controller" (PCI 1002/AA88), and one nonfunctional (8086/1D20). Windows claims no speakers or headphones are connected, no matter where I connect the headphones. I've removed and reinstalled drivers several times, no luck.

Ideas?

Hi and welcome.

Have you enabled the Azalia codec in the BIOS ?

Have you loaded all the drivers for the audio ?

Have you installed the drivers that come with the graphics card as they normally use HD audio as part of their software.

Realtek drivers are optional, but you can install them if you want.

I have the same devices on my X79, both working as is audio, so it may be you have Audio Device Control disabled in the BIOS, it's in the Peripherals section?  They changed the name on us DM, FYI for X79, Z77 too

Thanks for the heads up Lsdmeasap I must admit I hadn't noticed that so far. Must remember that one for the future. ;)

Tried with several different drivers, audio's enabled in bios. The device is recognized by windows, and present in device manager but marked as problematic (This device cannot start. (Code 10)). Systray sound icon insists there's no headphones or speakers plugged in, I've tried with known good headphones in the various rear audio jacks, no luck.

Should I just return the MB and ask for a replacement?
