Is there a Gigabyte S1080 with a 32GB Hard Disk or without hard disk?

Hi!

Today I have been at Fortune Town IT Mall in Bangkok and I have seen the Gigabyte S1080 for 16,200 THB ($522, €399, £330). I was decided to buy it, but I did read at the box something like: “SSD 32GB  HDD SATA”. Perhaps it means 32 GB SSD and no Hard Disk, or a 32GB Hard Disk?

The seller said that this was the only option, but he could not speak English so we could not clarify it. I did not buy it because I need 320 GB Hard Disk.

Is it true that there is a version with no hard-disk, or with a 32GB HD? I thought that the only option for the S1080 was the size of the SDD Flash Storage, but not the 320GB Hard Disk.

Hi

As far as I know, if that is the hard disk model (CF-1) the drive will be 320GB. If it is the SSD model (CF-2) the SSD should be 64 or 128GB. A 32GB SSD is not a standard feature.

So either that S1080 is a kirf or it was made specially for that market with a 32GB SSD. Which I would not buy.

No the 32GB is a missprint and there is no model with a hard drive or SSD of this size. It wouldn't be practicle as even Windows requires more than that.  ;)

Thank you for the answers. So it is probably a missprint at the box.

Anyone knows where can I find a picture of the authentic box? I would like to compare it before I go back. With Google Images I´ve found the beast itself, but not the box.

Another thing is that this a very good price comparing with what I have found at on-line shops (and that was before bargain, which is normal in Thailand). Should it be a suspicious thing, or it is just a good offer?

Cheers!

Thank you for the video.

Now I am not absolutely sure about the similarity of the box from memory. This old brain is getting rusted  :D

I have found this document with many detailed pictures, including serial number: http://www.dcom.co.th/proinfo/faq/Notebook/Gigabyte/32-GIG-S1001.pdf. I will print it before I go back to the shop.

ps: that document is worth to have a look. Although it's in Thai, the pictures of the performance test speak for themselves.

The one from here http://www.dcom.co.th/products/overview.asp?codemis=32-GIG-S1001 is the one I would trust given the option. Is this the same company/store? I see that they are a part of the same DCOM Group.

In the other page the poster/company neglects to show the other specifications. Either they did not bother to do it or did not know what to say. If they did not know or were misinformed it could lead to why they say the SSD is 32GB. It looks like a typographical error to me caused by laziness or carelessness by the company. Which could indicate how they may treat the equipment they have for sale.

If on the other hand it is the same store. I am confused about why they have 2 different wedsites. One of which is clearly better designed than the other.

So I'd go for the one where they took the time to properly inform you about the specifications and got them all correct. The price on the first one may also be a typo. Even if it is not the extra cost for a 32GB SSD is not worth it as you will quickly fill that up.

I think that maybe the SSD is just a small one and not used for storage but as a cache. This will increase the speed of access as the machine learns what data you tend to use most regularly.

The S1080 supports SSD cache? I was not aware, if true that would be amazing! I assumed the PCIE slot did not support the SATA protocol.

I sent an email to dcom asking where to buy the S1080 in Bangkok, and they address me to the shop at the IT mall where they only have that version with 32GB SSD and no specified Hard Disk. I asked if that S1080 is genuine, and how can I make sure that I buy the version with 320GB Hard Disk, but they have not answered.

If there is someone from Gigabyte reading this, they should clarify it. The selling of products with unclear specifications, and options that are not contemplated at the official Gigabyte Web Site, does not make any good to the image of the company.
