So, I talked with GB USA today and he said he is passing my Ivy Bridge Z6ucky8 BIOS issue up to who ever up is from the guy that answers the phone for tech support.  I'd really like a resolution to this sooner rather than later.  Otherwise I'll be doing a lot of complaining about how my board doesn't really support IB.  Of course I could always just buy an Asus and not have this problem.  I just have to find someone who would want to buy my Z68xp UD4 and my SB processor.  So GB, are you listening?  If not I wouldn't expect any enthusiast to be buying your future products, as I know I won't be, because this issue seems like engineers at GB don't think through what problems their end users are going to face even after they say it'll work for a CPU.

Thanks for the vent.

100% behind you on this bud.

Can't believe there is no news on this from Gigabyte...not even a  "we're working on it!" or an expected date.
Always been my favourite PC parts manufacturer, but I've lost so much faith in them now.

You could look here http://forums.tweaktown.com/gigabyte/28441-gigabyte-latest-beta-bios.html for an 'Unofficial bios'. Just because it is beta it should be fine to use.

most gigabyte  products have failing  electrolyte capacitors.  had  in two years six gigabyte motherbords all  finished  dead by capacitors that just blew up.. i wonder if they  produce  motherboards from recycled other motherboards ?

my friend   had some combat with gigabyte tech support.  he had warranty  and  motherboar d not want  to run. he clear cmos with jumper  change psu, memory processor - evrything.  finally  send it to service and  they  send back they can repair but for money they  think motherboard died by overclocking .  he was using computer as TV and sometimes  played CoD but no overclocking.

Z68XP-UD4 is what I've got and the multi lock is x39.  I did get a response from Gigabyte through their tech support... they said it is a BIOS issue.  Which is what I told them when I wrote them, I asked for a time when I could expect a fix.  We will see if they respond.

You obviously haven't been keeping up with any of the posts.

They won't give you a date... many people have asked, its such a joke.  They're obviously struggling to overcome it, wouldn't be surprised if we didnt see a fix till the end of the year or not at all.

i registered just to report i have the same issue as well.  hopefully more lurkers will register to voice their dissatisfaction as well so gigabyte could haul some butt and get us an updated bios.  even beta for gods sake.

i have a z68xp-ud5 and yes, my multiplier is locked.  no matter what the settings, it is stuck at 36x multiplier.  even with all default bios settings, speedstep/turbo does not work either.  only 3600mhz all the time.

i've tried latest official bios and the beta bios f7a.  obviously neither works.

also, why the hell isn't there a US forum?  is that market too small for GB?  ???

edit - some good news for Z68P-DS3 rev.2 and Ivy Brigde K owners,AMI BIOS with unlocked multi for Ivy K-series can be found here: http://forums.tweaktown.com/gigabyte/28441-gigabyte-latest-beta-bios-598.html

Answer - 1219962
Answer :    Dear Customer,

This board does not offer UEFI as the Award bios is limited and an different interface to UEFI. We will pass over to our team and check if anything can be done in the near future.

Question :    So there is a fix for this or you are not going to fix this and let those of us who bought your boards rot? If you're letting us rot I'm going to never buy your boards again.
Answer - 1219668
Answer :    Dear Customer,

This is due to the limitation of the bios

Question :    Is there a reason why I can't OC my new i7 3770k beyond a multiplier of 39? I mean my Sandy did 44 easily, but I'm a little frustrated to find out my Ivy can't do anything.

This is my current conversation with Gigabyte about this issue.  It doesn't look promising from what I'm getting.

Some good news it looks like it will be UEFI .

UEFI BIOS for Z68P-DS3 Rev 2.0 to fully support Ivy Bridge OC

The flash utility is also combined to the file. You need DOS (e.g. in USB stick) to flash it.
This BIOS upgrade is one-way which means the flash utility doesn’t allow you to flash BIOS back to legacy BIOS (Award).
The new utility to fix this constraint is also under development and will be coming soon.
We are developing Windows flash utility for the BIOS upgrade too.

After the completion of BIOS flash you have to remove AC power to restart the system again.
It’s used to reset ME states.

you basically have the same board as i do except i have the ud5.  here is the response i got from GB technical support today:

Answer :  Dear Customer,

Unfortunately this is due to the limitation of the Award bios as this board does not offer the UEFI support.

Question :  I just installed my new CPU, the i5-3570K and no matter what settings I input in bios, it is stuck at 36x multiplier. This is a multiplier unlocked CPU.

I've read in your forums that you guys are aware of this problem. When will we receive a bios update?

i like how he dodges my question on whether or not it will receive a bios update that will address the limitation or whether i should just get a new motherboard.  it looks like i will end up having to buy a new motherboard (that will NOT be gigabyte.  they've lost a customer of ten years.  i also recommend alot of system components to friends and family.  none of them will have Gigabyte motherboards from here on)

Yeah, I'm pretty much in the same boat, have always bought Gigabyte, but this is unacceptable.  Not even announcing officially that they understand there is a problem and that they are working on it or anything is pathetic.
To Asus!
