PCI slots don't regonise new hardware
« on: April 27, 2012, 10:53:32 pm »
I have just completed a new build with a GA Z68 UD3P MB, Intel i5 2500, (overclocked by Sna UK) Asus GT440 graphics and 8GB ram
The GT440 was installed at the initial build and has been recognised by the system but I am unable to install a couple of PCI cards which I have tried on various slots and all have failed to be recognised.

I am new to self biuld and I apologise if this has already been covered in FAQ but I gave failed to find any reference to this problem
I should have said that all sata drives have installed without problems and I am running Win7 64 bit.

Any help would be appreciated

Regards

Hi there,

Could you post back with a full list of your PC hardware and in particular the PCI cards you are trying to use? This will help us with trouble shooting for you and someone on the forum may have a similar setup to yourself and be able to offer first-hand experience.
Remember, when all else fails a cup of tea and a good swear will often help! It won't solve the problem but it will make you feel better.

Thanks for your reply. The details are:
GA Z68 PUD3 MB
Intel i5 2500 (overclocked by San compters to, I think, 4000)
Arctic cooler Freezer
OCZ ZT series 750W power supply
Corsair Graphite 600T case
Asus GT 440 graphic card in the pcix16 slot which appears to be working OK.
2X4 GB RAM
LG blue ray disc writer
Win 7 64 bit OEM.

The cards I tries are:

M Audio Delta 44
an unmarked pci express usb slot
I have tried looking for new hardware without any success - the catr just sits there doing nothing!!

I am alos having a problem with the sleep mode button on the top of the case. When I press tghis the following happens:
1. The computer appears to shut down
2.. It restarts but stalls on "waiting for ME ready
3 Usually (but not always) switches off again and reboots in safe mode. After a few seconds it does a full boot and all appears OK.

I don't want to annoy anyone by raising multiple problems in the same post buit I thought I should mention this in case it is part of the PCI problem.

Many thanks for your help whih is much appreciated

Hi and welcome.

Firstly are you sure that all your drivers are installed for the motherboard chipset ? Make sure.

Have you also got the 8 pin ATX 12v connector seated properly by the CPU ?

Sleep button ? I expect that what you think is a sleep button is actually the Reset Switch. If so that is why you are getting this response from it.  ;)

Thanks.
I checked the installed driver and the following was listed:
INF update utility
Intel Graphic accelorator
Real Tech audio drive
I then went on the web download page and was advised to install eltron USB drive and the INF upadte utility which was already showing as installed. I downloaded both files and the computer has now successfully installed both cards.

HOWEVER I'm not sure if it was the "missing" INF upadate utility or my stupidity! I have always been used to the "found new hardware" alert when new cards had been installed but both these cards gave no confirmation that they had been insatlled or drivers for them installed. It was only when I checked the installed hardware was it clear that they had been installed. Perhaps they had been installed yesterday and I was waiting for a prompt that nver arrived?

In any case, many thanks for your help. I hope I don't have to ask for too much more advice before I complete the build!!
