GA-990FXA-UD3 (rev. 1.2) memory clock detected wrong
« on: May 03, 2012, 11:26:07 am »
System info:
Motherboard: GA-990FXA-UD3 (rev. 1.2)
BIOS version: FC
Graphics card: ATI HD5850*2 in crossfire mode
CPU: AMD Phenom II 1090T 6*3.2ghz
RAM: 2*Corsair Vengeance 4GB. Timings: 9-10-9-27. Speed: 1866mhz. 1.5volt
HDD: Seagate Barracuda Green ST2000DL003 - harddisk - 2 TB - SATA-600 in IDE mode.
OS: Windows 7 Ultimate Edition x64

Problem:
At optimal default, the memory is set at 1600mhz, although it is ment to run at 1866mhz. CPU is clocked correctly at 3200mhz and north- and southbridge clocked at 2000mhz.

When I use the DRAM E.O.C.P to set the memory to 1866mhz, then it's set to 1864, and the cpu clock is changed.
It also boosts the ram voltage to 1.650volt, although it is ment to run at 1.5volt. I changed that back to 1.5volt.
BIOS shows CPU clock as changed to x14 running at 3262mhz, and both north and southbridge changed to x9, making them run at 2097mhz.

When I use optimal default setting, Windows runs smooth and nothing is wrong as such, except the fact that memory is running slower than intended.
When using the DRAM E.O.C.P setting, then Windows laggs.
My guess is it's beause the clock settings are off.

How can I get the correct settings for it all (CPU, bridges AND memory) as per system specs?

Here is some more specs on the memory I use:
Corsair CMZ8GX3M2A1866C9B
Full tech specs are available on this page: http://www.corsair.com/memory-by-product-family/vengeance/vengeance-8gb-dual-channel-ddr3-memory-kit-cmz8gx3m2a1866c9.html

I also noticed that if I just used the optimal default settings then the memory timings is set to 11-11-11-29.
This is alos WAY off compared to the specs.

Enabling optimal default settings doesn't set your memory timings to their rated timings. DRAM E.O.C.P. stands for Easy Over Clock Profile and changes a variety of settings.

Set memory clock to 1866mhz if possible. (page 36 English GA-990FXA-UD3 (rev. 1.1) - no rev 2.1)

Memory timings or RAM timings measure the performance of DRAM memory using four parameters: CL, tRCD, tRP, and tRAS in units of clock cycles; they are commonly written as four numbers separated with dashes, e.g. 5-5-5-15.

To selectively modify the memory timings set BIOS DDR3 Timing Items from Auto to MANUAL (page 38)
CL - CAS# latency (page 38)
tRCD - RAS to CAS R/W Delay (page 38)
tRP - Row Precharge Time (page 38)
tRAS- Minimum RAS Active Time (page 38)

DCTs Mode should the default Unganged setting
Command Timing should be 2T
Auto is okay for other settings
