Disable Dolby Home theater?

Disable Dolby Home theater?
« on: May 10, 2012, 12:36:24 am »
Hi all. I have quite a frustrating problem.

I have a Gigabyte GA-Z68XP-UD4, now the problem is. I just want the realtek equalizer, I've read that dolby overrides it,

There is suppose to be 4 tabs in 'realtek hd audio manager' but I only see 2. There should be a 'sound effects' tab, which has the equalizer in it, but mine does not.

Dolby home theater DOES have an equalizer but it also adds some kind of horrible fake reverb thing which can't be turned off unless you turn off the dolby thing all together.

So is there a way I can somehow get JUST the realtek drivers and not horrible dolby stuff.

I have tried uninstalling all sound drivers and doing a registry sweep, then installing realtek drivers for a  Biostar TA990 chipset board. But that didn't work for me. Still no sound effects tab.

Please help! I've been at this for about 4 hours with no luck.

These are the biostar drivers I tried, just in case they are perhaps the wrong ones: http://www.biostar.com.tw/app/en/mb/introduction.php?S_ID=560&tab=3

Did you look in control panel for the realtek HD audio manager?

Yes. It's the same as it is from the notification area.

Also I just tried that step again, uninstalling everything and doing a clean install of the biostar drivers, and same problem. Also in my speaker properties I have a dolby section, it seems no matter what I do, dolby is always there somehow.

http://puu.sh/tRVW - This is what i'm talking about. Notice the no 'sound effects' section. And dolby is somehow part of the realtek driver it seems. Just go away dolby!!

Are we forever doomed to have only this dolby equalizer??

Surely there's a way to get rid of it!

I just noticed a on off button on the left top corner of the dolby equalizer. Try that?

Look in Control panel, Programs And Features look down the list Until you find it then click on it and see if it will uninstall it :-)

Uninstalling the dolby thing just leaves me with realtek still with no equalizer. The dolby icon isn't in the notification area anymore but if I go into speaker properties there is still a dolby section, even though I uninstalled it. It seems to be part of the realtek driver.

I really dislike the fact that gigabyte have forced this horrible software on us. I really don't want any dolby crap. I just want realtek with realtek's equalizer. Such a simple thing, yet so hard to obtain.

I don't know! Maybe go to realtek site and see if you can find some older drivers that may work?

Tried that too. There is no file to replace. I assume you put that into the realtek folder. It opens and all but it doesn't do anything because it's not using those drivers.

Maybe a long bow but these drivers support the chip

http://downloads.guru3d.com/Realtek-HD-Audio-2.12-Driver-download-2151.html

But does it support windows 7 ?

Tried that too. Didn't work.

I'll give that one a go, thanks.

But this is horses***. Thanks gigabyte for forcing bulls*** on me. I won't be buying another motherboard from you. I mean why FORCE something on me. Why can't I have choice, but no, I guess i'll just settle for horrible sound.

You've been very helpful though fatman. Thanks.
