Gigabyte and Corsair H80
« on: April 18, 2012, 11:45:20 pm »
Hi, just wondering if anyone is using a Corsair H80 or H100 on a GA-Z77X-UD3H mb and if so, were there any issues mounting the waterblock?

Reason I ask is that Gigabyte placed some electrical components too close to the CPU on some of their LGA775 mb and they interfere slightly with the mounting of the waterblock causing temps run a bit higher than they have to be. I'm going to be upgrading to a Z77 mb and would like to go with Gigabyte's, but only if my H80 will work properly with it. Anyone have any experience?

Thanks,

Dark Mantis

Hi,

I can't relate exactly as I don't have this motherboard however I had a similar experience on another Gigabyte board when I was installing a Watercool  HeatKiller 3.0 CPU block. I found that due to the way the capacitors were mounted very closely to the socklet that I couldn't fit it the prescribed way and had to turn it 90 degrees to enable clearance. I suspect that you will have a similar problem.

Thanks for the response.

Yes, I currently have a EP45-UD3R and Q9550 on which I've mounted the waterblock for the Corsair H80.  On installation I had to rotate the block 90 degrees as you indicate.  While it works 'decently' temperature-wise, the capacitors on the board still interfere with a solid fit and therefore my temps are not as low as they could be if the block fit tight against the processor.

I'm going to be laying out some good cash on a new board and processor and want to make sure the block fits as it's supposed to, otherwise I might as well have stayed with air cooling.

I've been loyal to Gigabyte for many builds over several years but perhaps it's time for a change....

Cheers,
