Have fitted the USB3 plate to the front and is plugged into USB socket on the board. Problem I have is when I stick in a USB 3 flashpen it comes up with the message that it would work faster in a USB3 socket??? Is this because I aint gone Ivybridge and still have the 2600k.. is that the problem?

Is the usb onboard one of the usb3 ports?
1.Up to 2 USB 3.0/2.0 ports (available through the internal USB headers)
2.Up to 6 USB 2.0/1.1 ports (2 ports on the back panel, 4 ports available through the internal USB headers.

Make sure you have it plugged into a usb3 port and that you have chipset and usb drivers installed.

Then i would say it is the difference in drives and nothing to do with the port at all.
