GA-870A-USB3 Keep restarting or turns off on it's own
« on: June 08, 2012, 02:02:21 pm »
Hi everyone,

I have posted before about an issue I had with a FX6100 that I got, and it turned out that the CPU was bad as I got a FX4100 and everything is working fine.

My new problem is, with my old EAH500 Watt Antec PSU my PC use to restart and keep restarting on every POST been. I would have to clear the BIOS for several hrs before that PC would start up properly again.

Now I have a New cheap 880Watt PSU and now it would just turn off, like there was a power outage. and sometimes I would have to turn the switch off and back on again before the PC comes back on.

Can anyone explain why this is happening, and how can I fix it?

Thank you.

1.The score should be 7.3 in Windows WEI for CPU .if it s less CPU throttling is occuring
2.Those issues could be
-Power supply -you really need some Corsair/SIrtec/Chieftec 450-500W to rule out the PSU(this are the cheap ones with some decent design) .
   -bad RAM
   -CPU incompatibility with the motherboard.

You will need to spend more money or send for RMA the mobo ,RAM and PSU if possible :)

Wow I can't RMA since I am not from the USA. I will need to get new PSU, Mobo and Ram. But what power supply would you recommend for the system I have?

A power supply that delivers 30 Ampers minimum on the 12 V line  (single railed if possible) should be enough for that system.A power supply with true 450W specification would be enough.Brand wise i already told you a few trustable.
Give us some links with what you can afford so we choose one for you.

RMA should be made to the store you have bought those theoretically.

After you get a new power supply see what happens.

Do not update motherboard BIOS until it stops reseting or turning off and a new PSU should help into this problem.

I suspect that the Antec has bulged capacitors and that the no name one is underpowered in spite of the 800W sticker.

Good luck.

I ll be looking forward for the PSU-s you have in mind.
The PSU is one of the most important parts in a PC in spite of being many times neglected .
To be on the safe side you have to spend some money on it ,going cheap on this one can harm the other components .
Maybe the other CPU was the victim of your old PSU.

Ok, to be on the safe side, can you please recommend a few for me, cause what I might post here might not be good at all, but I don't mind paying good money for a good one.

From what I have heard from other tech people and I don't know if it is true or not, but one of the best brands for power supplies (Or atleast trusted ones) are Corsair, SeaSonic or XFX.

I myself is using a Corsair TX 750W with more then 60 amps on a single 12v rail and it is supposed to be a great power supply or so people have told me. On newegg.com this one cost $110, link: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817139021&Tpk=Corsair%20TX%20750W.

But if you feel you don't need that much power you could go for a TX 650W for $20 less, link: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817139020&Tpk=TX%20650.

I also heard XFX Core Edition Pro650W is also a good one with 53 amps on a 12v single rail, link: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817207014&nm_mc=AFC-C8Junction&cm_mmc=AFC-C8Junction-_-na-_-na-_-na&AID=10446076&PID=3917268&SID=skim21873X801113X33dd211adc442836ef1d826db1591fcf .

It might be alot of power but it doesn't hurt if in the future you want to maybe upgrade your system then atleast you know you will have a good power supply ready to suit your needs. Atleast these are the ones I recommend.

A 650W would be ok for the future 750W for that configuration would be to much.

Some more examples :

Corsair CMPSU-430 CX V2 -the minimum that should work with what you have now. This one should take 2 optical units and 2 HDD-s along the CPU and video you have.

Chieftec A-80, 500W

Corsair CMPSU-500CX V2

Sirtec HPC-500-G12S BR

Corsair CMPSU-600CX V2 -i am using this one and i have made using this one 2 more systems for friends, one featuring a 6870 video card and a P2X4 980.
