UD5H - Odd boots
« on: July 11, 2012, 06:27:32 am »
I got my UD5H a couple days ago and haven't really been pleased. It has been an uphill battle getting it to work.

The board would crash in the bios and it is an ABSOLUTE PAIN to properly turn on.

The crashing issue was resolved by increasing the ram voltage.

The issue with turning on is unresolved. To give you an idea of what it is like, I included a video below. Please watch the entire thing (about 1 minute) to understand.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OLy65eR_4oo&feature=youtu.be

Just before it turns on, it gets to 95 and then blanks out/restarts at 15. This can happen multiple times before the computer successfully turns on (or it can just loop without a successful startup).

I'm thinking RMA, but I want to make sure.

Specs:
i7 2700k
Ripjaws 2 x 4gb 2133mhz (Cl 11)
Z77X UD5H (F8 bios)
ATI 4870 X2
Crucial M4 128gb

ALSO! The computer may shut off at random times while in windows. I will hear my video card fan start to throttle up and down, the screen will go blank, and the hard drive light on the case will stop blinking.

(no, the video card is not faulty. I literally used it last night in a different computer.)

Hi and welcome.

I suspect that it is probably only something small that is giving you trouble so lets try and sort it out. Firstly a full list of your components would be a big help please.

Next make sure that you have the latest BIOS version installed. If not use QFlash after downloading and unzipping the file from here:

Please post back with the list once done.

I "may" have gotten it working by updating to the beta bios 9h. I am leaving it folding overnight to see if there are any issues.

I wouldn't be surprised actually as my next step would have been to reconfigure the BIOS. If you still have any problem try clearing the CMOS by following these instructions and then loading Optimised BIOS Defaults.

This is more effective than by just pressing the Clear CMOS button.

Remove the power cable from the mains supply and then press the power switch on the case for a few seconds just to drain any residual energy in the PSU capacitors.

Once done remove the motherboard battery for one hour before replacing it.

Next plug back into the mains supply and boot.

You will now need to enter the BIOS by pressing DEL and load Optimised BIOS Defaults.

Make any other changes to the BIOS settings to suit your self like disabling the floppy drive, disabling the full screen logo and making the HDD the primary boot device and then press F10 to save and exit.

Did that and still have the same problems (I even activated the default XMP profile on my memory).

Also, I found that I cannot recover from sleep mode. I get to the "15" on the LCD and it locks up. [I use sleep every day, so this is a relatively serious issue]

Sorry for double post, but forum wouldn't let me edit.

A few of my issues of been resolved.

Those that remain:
Occasional boot loop
Occasional video loss

Part of my problem (stuck in A0 or AE with no screen) is somehow related to my video card. The GPU runs fine (in a different rig), but for some reason the UD5H doesn't always want to send video through. Any ideas on this?

Hello,

I have the same problems, the video won't work. Even after powering down and draining it like stated, It still has the problems of ocasional video loss

My specs are the following

i7 3770k
Crucial ballistics 4 x 4gb 116mhz (Cl 11)
Z77X UD5H (F8 bios)
Sapphire ATI HD 7870 2Go

I double checked the video card, and tried different version of the BIOS. Have you any clue on the video losses ?
