GA-965P-DS4 Wake up often fails with power cycling on-off
« on: August 14, 2008, 11:27:28 pm »
I have a GA-965P-DS4 rev 1 motherboard used as a Media Centre. Wake up often fails with power cycling on-off. After going into S3 standby, pressing power button to wake up results n power turned on, goes through post then after a second or two powers down and repeats a few seconds later, and goes into a never ending power cycle loop. (normal power on is OK)

During S3 standby, the memory remains powered on and the memory is refreshed by internal memory process. This is done by switching the power supplied to the memory to use the standby power supplied when going into standby.

The wake up problem is possibly caused by the RAM standby power and standby refresh not being switched to normal power and refresh correctly.  This might be because of memory recovery process error, Chipset and BIOS process error, or drop in voltage from disks powering up.

Even when wake up does successfully restore, the TV tuner often fails to reset correctly reporting no signal.

PSU is Tagan 480Watts and there is one HDD a WD Green series and 1xDVD. The HDD has a spin up current of only 1.75A max.

There are many reports of similar problems with the P35 chipset, has anyone seen S3 Wake up power cycling errors with the P965 chipset?

Or might this be a 965P DS4 rev 1 motherboard issue?

Hi

new bios F11 maybe will help.
Also try to change memory modules into different.
ZX-S & C64 are still my favourites ;-)
