GA-MA785GMT-UD2H rev 1.0 no post screen on vga when using PCIe graphics

Hi all,

Ive had this problem for a long time, but reverted back to the onboard graphics, so never worried about it.

Now I need to use an Nvidia card, so onboard is no good.

I can see the post screen memory checks, enter bios etc on my tv (HDMI)

but on my monitor (old one) via vga I get no display until my OS login screen appears.

Not the end of the world, but still something that is not working as it should, and if others are watching the tv it becomes annoying me having to change the source constantly.

bios revision is F3, I dont seen any mention of this being an issue or a fix released in later bios revisions, maybe there is?

I have disabled onboard graphics, and set init display to PEG.

Any help much appreciated.

Thanks

Rob

Hi

Are you using an adapter to connect to the onboard GPU port ?

Without checking I cannot remember if there are other options for the PCIE graphics but if there is try that, (often PEGx16.)

Hi, thanks for the reply.

I'm not aware of any adaptor, been a while since I put the card in, as far as I remember it just slots into the PCIe x16 slot, I can check again when I get home.

The only setting available are on board, pci slot, and peg, both pci and peg will work with the same issue.

Hi

The adapter I was referring to would be attached to the cable not inside the machine. What connections are on the cable that you are using ?

Also which ports are you connecting your cables to from the TV and monitor ?

In view of your answer you have chosen the correct setting for the BIOS.

Ah ok I see what you mean.

On the graphics card I have a 15 pin VGA to the monitor, straight through cable, no adaptor.

Hdmi to hdmi to the tv, again no adaptor.

There is also a dvi output on the graphics card which is not being used, maybe I need a dvi to VGA adaptor for the monitor?

I do have a dvi to hdmi cable, if it's long enough I could test that port on the tv later on, but still seems strange to get no output on VGA when there is on hdmi, maybe this is a graphics card issue as opposed to motherboard as it works fine via hdmi?

Right, Ive just got in and done a little further testing..

Using the PCIe NVIDIA geforce 520.

VGA output displays post, bios etc when it is the only output used.

Using DVI or HDMI will cause the vga to no longer display boot cycle.

Using DVI and HDMI at the same time will cause which ever was plugged in last to not display full stop.

So using HDMI on my TV and DVI with an adapter for my monitor is out of the question.

I think I have answered my own question in whether this is a mobo or graphics card issue, seems it is the graphics card.

Appreciate any further advice even if it is not directly linked to the mobo.

Thanks

Rob

*seems I need to find a way to set vga as default at boot rather than HDMI*

Exactly. Check through the BIOS there must be a setting there somewhere.

I have a feeling there is no option as this is regarding a PCIe card instead of the onboard..

Problem is, all the other posts I can find involving a similar issue is people stuck displaying vga instead of HDMI at boot up, Id be happy with that lol...
