Update firmware from F12 to UEFI firmware version U1H

Update firmware from F12 to UEFI firmware version U1H
« on: August 18, 2012, 09:01:11 pm »
Hi,

I just updated my motherboard BIOS firmware from F12 to U1H.  There are some confusions on how to do it.  So, I am posting it here as how I do it.  It works for me.

Motherboard:  Gigabyte GA-Z68X-UD3H-B3-rev1.3
Update BIOS firmware from F12 to UEFI firmware U1H

Software and USB flash drive:
1. hpflash1 (for making bootable usb)
2. win98boot (for making bootable DOS usb)
3. GA-Z68X-ud3h-b3-u1h firmware (from Gigabyte)
4. One USB flash drive (4 GB or bigger)

Procedure steps:
1. Download three software listed above, extract to hard drive
2. Install hpflash1 program
3. Plug USB flash to USB port and run HP USB Disk Storage Format Tool program (choose the program, right click the mouse, choose option “run as administrator”)
4. In Format options: choose “Quick Format” and choose “Create a DOS startup disk” with option: using DOS system files location at: “choose location of Win98boot folder”, then click “Start”
5. Next, copy the three firmware files (autoexec, FLASHEFI, and Z68XUD3H.U1H) to USB flash drive
6. Keep the USB flash drive connected, restart the computer and enter BIOS by pressing the “Delete” key during start up
7. In BIOS, change boot priority to boot from “USB flash drive” as # 1, then “save and exit”
8. In the reboot, the computer will automatically update Bios firmware from F12 to UEFI firmware version U1H, just wait until it is finished.
9. Remove the USB flash drive, then re-start computer
10. The computer may need to re-install some drivers for different hardwares.  It may requires a few re-boot to complete the update drivers process
11. Done! Enjoy new firmware

Note:
- If you have Raid setting for your primary drive, you need to go back to BIOS and enable “Raid” in BIOS setting.

Hope it helps.  Thanks.

Hi

Thanks for the help for anyone who needs it there.

I would also add that you should load Optimised BIOS Default settings too.

If you have a problem with your pendrive being recognised sometimes a smaller one will work better.

Nice advice, I updated to U1h a few months ago and it's a lot quicker to boot.

What would be useful is a way to revert to F12, as the UEFI is far from perfect. I can't overclock my 2500K or Samsung 30nm DDR3, so would prefer the old F12 BIOS if I could restore it safely (ie using an 'official' Gigabyte utility).

Denis,
Google for "efi2awd", lots of topics will pop up, also in TweakForum where they have a massive thread on bioses. I hear it's a semi-official tool. Seems many ppl want to go back to their standard bioses and I can't blame them. I also just updated my board's bsio to UEFI and already see it's a very early version, with plenty of options not working or not working properly. Still, I like the blitz fast boot so I'll probably stay with it and wait a little until GB publishes a refined UEFO for my mobo.

I know this is an older thread but, is the newest U1L a better BIOS file? did GB fix the issues?
