AHCI with XP on GA-A75-D3H
« on: August 25, 2012, 04:41:57 pm »
I created my floppy disk, pressed F6 and selected the "x86" AHCI driver

Windows setup created the partition but then asked again for the driver on A:. The floppy disk and drive had not been disconnected but Windows will not load the driver again!

Is there a way around this?

I am currently installing XP without AHCI, so is there an alternative way to enable AHCI after XP is installed?

The GA-A75-D3H like most new motherboards has no floppy drive connector. There are a limited number of USB floppy drives certified by Microsoft to install Windows XP. How are you connecting a floppy disk drive?

An alternative method of installing XP is to use nLite and create a  XP install cd with the SATA drive included.

3) GA-AM1M-S2P, Sempron 3850 Kabini

Indeed ,Tiger is right ,there is no floppy connector on the mobo :)  i wonder how you were using a floppy :) .

Karma added for Tiger ,slipstreaming is the way  :)
I recommend "Winfuture XP ISO Builder"  for this procedure never failed on me compared to nlite.It saved the day with some laptops :)

On the other hand IDE Mode may be good enough if the procedure fails.

I bought a USB flopy drive specifically to do this - might be a waste of money now!

I've followed the links above and when I try to update the driver using the ahci86.inf from the disk, I get the error "The specified location does not contain information about your hardware" :-(

Here you go -> http://www.softpedia.com/get/System/Boot-Manager-Disk/xp-Iso-Builder.shtml

Some guide here -> http://www.winfuture-forum.de/index.php?showtopic=126900

It may be the case that the driver on mobo site to be useless.The inf-s of the driver may be edited to add the hardware ID of the SATA hardware to install that driver , but it s risky.If this is the case use the IDE Mode on XP or go for Windows 7 with it s AHCI own driver.

If you bought a usb floppy then it was a waste. For one the computer wont see it as a floppy until after windows 7 is installed. Much easier and faster to use a usb drive or as the above poster said slipstream it into the disk.
