Z77-D3H sound issue
« on: September 15, 2012, 06:54:16 pm »
Have the following setup and am really struggling to obtain ANY sound at all from the PC. This is a new build and apart from sound all is fine. I have installed the latest audio drivers as well. Tried to disable the audio in BIOS and used a Sound Blaster (old) 24 bit card. Windows 64 bit obtained the friver for this and the Device Manager states all is ok - BUT no sound still!  ???

Setup:

Z77-D3H - BIOS version F18
i5 processor
16mb Corsair Vengence memory
SDD Drive

Try the following. (Make sure your not mute, Sound is turned down, your speakers have power- maybe try headphones but be aware of possible loudness )

If You Use Win7:
-Look for the Speaker in the notification area of your taskbar.

-Right click and choose the Option "Sounds" in the Pop-Up.

-Change to the first register Called "PlayBack". Here you should see the your optional sound sources. With a right click you can change the options if disabled or disconnected devices can be seen.

-Try to play around to change the default playback sorce.

Hi

Have you got the speakers plugged into the correct ports on the rear panel of the motherboard ?

Make sure that you have the onboard sound enabled in the BIOS.

Make sure that you have the onboard sound selected as default output in Windows.

Check in Device Manager to see if the Sound card is working properly.

Yes to all of above.

Actually, I reinstalled a backup copy of C Drive - used to be my PC a month ago before I upgraded as in post 1. Windows reinstalled drivers as necessary and I installed all Gigabyte Z77-D3H drivers EXCEPT the Audio Via drivers. Windows picked up the rest including the sound blaster and all works now!!

Further google serches confirmed my suspicion that the Via audio drivers do not seem to work with the Z77-D3H audio. Not sure why Gigabyte have not cottoned on to this yet?

Anyway, thanks guys for the responses. :)

Quick further update:

Decided that current working setup had loads of old PC based drivers - so decided to do a clean instal. So once Win 7 was installed, I ran updates and again, only loaded Gigabyte drivers except Audio.

Have a clean machine which is really quick but a pain to reinstal all my software! Well, night is young!
