Gigabyte F2A85X-UP4 Booting Issues
« on: November 08, 2012, 05:11:04 pm »
Hi,

Having trouble with a motherboard whenever I boot into windows. As soon as I install the chipset drivers (used disk and ones on website) and restart the system it will get to loading windows and go to no signal.

Tech Spec:

Onboard Graphics
A10 - 5800K Black
Kingston 8gb 1866 memory
PC Power and Cooling 600w

I have tried a new motherboard, PSU, Memory and CPU.

Tried latest beta BIOS and normal BIOS.

Any suggestions would be greatful as its a weird fault.

I am not sure what OS you are using but i havent had to load chipset drivers since vista so if you are using vista or windows 7 open device manager before installing them and see what drivers you need if it just the usb3 drivers load them only there is no need to load chipset drivers unless device manager says you need them or you are using xp.

im had the same problem as evoaddict with same board and apu with win7, the problem im sure has nothing to do with drivers ( i could be wrong as im not too clued up atm since ive not done a new build in a few yr now) . my 1st install was to a new ssd which ended with the same problem so i then tried a new install to an old 750gb hdd i had with same problem  ??? i took a guess at the onboard gpu being a bit iffy so dropped in an old radeon 4890 which got me further into windows however (sometimes? ) on the windows loading screen the same problem would come back ( pc doesnt restart or shut down and the only way out is to turn off the psu ) so out of curiosity i pulled the DVI-D connector while the pc is still running and put it into the 4890 and omg im in window ??? . OK i think i can deal with another £50 for another radeon 6670 as recomended by AMD for dual graphics but now the problem i have is the same no signal except now changing from onboard DVI-D to the one on the card does nothing, i need to kill the power to power off. no matter which gfx i choose in the bios for the primary this problem wont go away although ive found the onboard to be more stable and last longer. maybe its something in the bios im over looking but i dont think so, ive been holding out for a bios update (didnt want to take the chance to flash with a beta) any help with this would be greatly appreciated as my head is battered now and im ready to bin it and go back to asus which ive always used in the past  :-\

That is what the back up bios is for on gigabyte boards just in case you have a bad flash or corrupt bios. You can read more about it on the following page.

at the time i bought this board there was only this one or some cheap asrock board available and it was the gigabyte dual bios that swayed me.

it just seems odd that the bios is corrupt straight from the box, is this normal or could it be cause to my problems?

If it only happened the first start up and not since then the back up bios would of overwritten it and your bios should be fine now. If you wanted to you could update bios to latest level and there is a way to overwrite the backup bios also if you want the back up to be at latest level but i wouldnt overwrite backup bios till you used board for awhile and everything is working fine.

thanks for your replies autotech,

yesterday i pulled myols  psu ( OCZ Game X Stream 1010watt ) and put in a 700W Cooler Master GX Lite 80PLUS and fingers crossed as i havent had the problem since and trust me a whole day without this problem is a big thing.

maybe my psu farted on 1st power up and caused the bios corruption ? or its just not cut out for these new bits or simply on its way out?  either way ill keep it in for a few days to make sure my problems gone before i replace my old psu.

i only changed psu when i checked my order history from where i get my parts from and found my psu to be 5yr old :o

once again thanks for you time autotech, ill keep yous updated on how things go, would be good to hear from evoaddict on how hes getting on?

You are very welcome joe. Weak PSU's can cause weird problems is why i finally broke down and bought a silverstone strider 1000 watt. Every psu cacilator i used said i only needed 600 watt at the most but it has been well worth it and mine is now going into its 6th year.

just an update,

everything seems fine now (been a week) so im putting all my problems down to psu. i opened up my old psu and gave it a good old blow out and couldnt find any thermal damage or smell anything out of the ordinary so now thats back in my old system and working fine?

cheers joe  :D
