From what i have read others use that combination in HTPC's and quite a few people use that card and older processors to watch hi Def  movies. So you shouldnt have any problem as long as you arent using a 32 inch tv if so might not be as clear as it could be.

I have a 2.4 amd chip with a 3250 and it wont do it. Only has 256mb ram on it though and for larger screens id say at least a gig of ram on the video card would give you a crisp clear picture.

I just completed a new build for my dad and HD movies work purrrrfect on it.

The total build was under $150 and everything is new.

Here's the specs:

AMD Sempron 145
MOBO: Top Secret
Gigabyte GeForce 210 512MB
Thermaltake VM54521N2U V2 ATX Mid Tower Case
THERMALTAKE 450 PSU
OCZ DDR3 RAM 4 GB
80MM FANS [2]
120MM FANS [2]
DVD BURNER
OCZ 120GB SSD

Special Note:  I would definitely do things different if I had it all over again to do.

Instead of a Sempron 145, I would use an Intel G530 [the prices are nearly the same here]

Also, I would probably use a Gigabyte 6450 1GB [often on sale for under $10 after rebate].

Hope this helps!

I use 42 inch plasma tv, 1024x768.
Via Win7 I can set all resolutions.
Well, I recently changed 5450 with 6450. There was a HD movie which was not running well with 5450. After I put 6450 it runs well...

The HTPC of mine is

AMD Sempron 140 + Xigmatec Loki cooler FANLESS
Shapphire 6450 2GB FANLESS
Chieftec full tower case
Silverstone 450W psu FANLESS
Adata DDR2 ram 2x2GB
Asus pci wi-fi card
Scythe 120mm fan
Intel SSD 160GB

In winter I remove the fan so there is dead silence  ;D
Here is an image-->  http://imageshack.us/f/100/46452323.jpg/

Now about your system,
The major question is -->
Are Semrpon 145 + Nvidia 210 enough for playing 1920x1080 movies without problems? (freezings, breaks etc)
Which player do you use? What monitor?
So you payed only 150€?  Sounds too low number for this equipment.
Why do you use 4 fans? I only use 1 fan in about 500-600rpm.
Is your 120GB hard disc enough? (I also use a green 500GB in extrernal usb case for storage).

Also, I would probably use a Gigabyte 6450 1GB

But why, since you said that with 5450 “HD movies work purrrrfect”?  :)
