Problems with internal USB 3.0 GA-Z77X-UD5H
« on: November 26, 2012, 06:33:07 pm »
Hi,
I have a motherboard GA-Z77X-UD5H. My internal usb port 3.0 is not working properly (F_USB30_1 (2 and 3)). Pendrive USB 3.0 disconnects when copying. Pendrive 2.0 on the ports are working properly. What can I do to work properly? I would ask a simple description (possibly link).
Sorry for language errors.
:)

Did you download the latest drivers from Gigabyte's website?

Which USB Flash Drive are you using?  Both make and model number.

Do you have another USB 3.0 on another machine to test?

I have had the same problem. USB 3.0 ports randomly turn off for about 2-3 seconds. It's as if the whole USB controller stops working.

I can tolerate it on my keyboard and mouse but my wireless connection device is on a 3.0 port (my board only has 3.0). Highly annoying to be disconnected.

I am not at home to supply what drivers I am using I can look in a couple hours.

Here are my specs -
Gigabyte GA-Z77X-UP4 TH
Intel Core i7-2600K Sandy Bridge 3.4GHz (3.8GHz Turbo Boost)
Corsair 650W PSU
Geforce GTX 660 Ti
CORSAIR Vengeance LP 16GB (2 x 8GB)
Windows 7 - 64 bit

Keyboard - Microsoft Sidewinder
Mouse - Razer Mamba

Lolaebracakes-->on your board, there are via usb and intel usb. please sure these two drivers are installed and find out which one (intel or via) cannot work.

Yes, backpanel usb 3.0 port working. Connection on the motherboard USB 3.0 and connect the front panel not work. Disconnect the unit usb 3.0.
USB 2.0 on the front panel works fine. Only when I connect usb 3.0 is a problem.
Tested drivers:
Intel USB 3.0 Driver   1.0.5.235
Intel USB 3.0 Driver   1.0.6.245
Drivers VIA:
I have not found on the GIGABYTE website

Backpanel - work
Frontpanel - not work USB 3.0/ USB 2.0 work

My system Windows 7 64 bit

Very strange they don't list VIA drivers on Gigabyte's website.  If you look carefully on your motherboard you should be able to find a VIA chip with the model # on it then go to VIA's website and search by model number for proper drivers.

It should be a VL800 through VL810 or similar.

Where do I find the driver VIA? I would like a direct link, because I do not know which driver to install. I do not want to spoil.
It is strange that on the backpanel is also VIA, and it works.

I found no reference to the VIA chipset for your board on Gigabyte's website.   You'll have to look at your motherboard and look for the chip.

forgot to mention that if the rear panel VIA ports work (make sure they are VIA ports) then the on board is working.  Double check to make sure you have the connector fully pushed on.  My first case with a USB 3.0 built in had a faulty connecter.  It was manufactured upside down.  There is a missing pin on the header and the connector had the missing pin on the other end so it wouldn't plug in all the way.

Make sure the connector is all the way pushed on!  After you make sure the pin assignments are correct.

Chip VL 810

If the rear panel work, do not install the VIA drivers?
Hub (Firmware)

from:

All the pins are in place.
I do not know why the internal USB 3 is not working properly. I have no idea.

Internal USB 3.0 "F_USB30_1" is intel and it does not work.

Thats the one!

If rear panel works, then front panel should.  the drivers installed should be fine.  Update to newer driver anyway.

Is the connector pushed down flush against the header?  Try the other two connectors.

If it is for sure an Intel USB 3.0 port, then you'll need Intel drivers.

also, it may be a faulty USB 3.0 hub.  Where did you get the hub?

My FW VL810 is 0,95 - not updating
There are no drivers for VL810, there are only drivers for VL800/801
I tried the hub from Gigabyte and integrated in the housing (Corsair 400R). Both have the same problem with Intel and VIA Chip.

Other people working with internal USB 3?
You may need to change things in the BIOS?

Not much support from Gigabyte. I have all sorts of issues with usb.

This the first time that I've bought a board that won't recognise a keyboard unless it's on a usb 3 in front panel or Usb 2 on back.

For the VIA usb, Gigabyte should have a reference on their site. So if you screw things up, your on your own.

You have to put the files of the VIA update in the root of the C drive (C:\\

Then run the update in admin mode. You must be patient it takes a minute or 2 for the detection then you update.

BTW the F15m with fast boot isn't faster than the F14. Looks nicer but any settings used and I can't access the bios without a reset. Oh well.

Hey guys,

I'm having the same issue with the same board. The problem occur only with the USB 3.0 VIA VL810 chipset. I'm using windows 8.1.

I've contacted gigabyte and they are investigating the issue at this point, hopefully, they will find something....

i'll let you guys know...

Ok guys,

Thought I would give an update with the gigabyte support. After lots of effort, they finally managed to reproduce the problem (Needed to ship my usb stick to them). However, they don't quite know the reason, it look like it's an incompatibility issue with the stick.

Since i'm not the only one (lots of people here) I think it's a problem in their design.

The only thing they offer me was that they could send it off to their main engineering team for futher investigation. At this point, it's already been couple months that they working on it and I'm giving up.

Moral of the story is that they seem to have some incompatility issues with some usb 3.0 devices and the z77x-ud5h board and even them, they can't come with a clear answer to me.

I'll be swtiching board as my assus one doesn't have this issue. Tired of waisting my time with them seriously...

Thought I would give an update!
