GA-F2A75M-D3H won't wake from sleep

GA-F2A75M-D3H won't wake from sleep
« on: November 26, 2012, 07:43:31 pm »
I just built an HTPC.  All is working well except wake from sleep.  When I put my HTPC in sleep mode I am unable to recover.  I have bios setup to wake on keyboard or mouse movement.  When I try to wake the power LED lights up, cpu fan spins and hard disk spins up.  However, there is no video - the monitor stays in sleep mode.

Also, I have an IR remote control that has mouse functionality.  When the computer is on and press remote keys or the remote control's mouse functionality the IR receiver flashes until I stop pressing a given key.  That works fine.  However, when in sleep mode and I press the mouse functionality the computer power LED comes on, cpu fan spins up.  The IR receiver stays lit constantly, no flashing.  When I stop pressing the mouse the IR receiver continues to stay lit.  If I unplug it and re-insert it the IR light won't come back on, even if it's built in mouse.  And, the monitor does not wake.
The only way to resume windows is to reset power. And then I get a message saying Windows did not shut down correctly.
Anyone seen this before or have recomendations on steps I can follow to resolve?

Here's my build -

  • Windows 7 Professional, SP1
        AMD A10 5700 processor/graphics
        Gigabyte GA-F2A75M-D3H motherboard
        Corsair Vengeance 8 gb DDR3 1866
        Crucial 64 Gig m4 SSD
400 Watt Silence MK III psu
Western Digital Caviar green 3 TB SATA III 64  hard disk
HD Homerun Prime (on my home network, HTPC recognizes  it fine)

thanks

According to Crucial's own techs in their forums and thru their tech support many of their drives have a hard time handling sleep mode in different configurations.

"I asked tech support at Crucial about SSD's and sleep. His response was that some systems have trouble" from a thread on their forum. You might want to post on their forum to see if it might be a setting for the SSD that you are overlooking.

thanks Autotech.  I downloaded a firmware update from Crucial and insalled it.  It didn't solve the problem, actually I think it made it worse as now when I invoke sleep mode the pc powers down for about 10 seconds and then the power light comes on, fan on cpu spins but no monitor.  Looks to be the same behavior as when I tried to wake from sleep by pressing a key or moving the mouse.  The new crucial driver is #010G.  One of it's "fixes" is to help improve sleep behavior.  I think I'll need to roll back though, will try an even earlier version as threads on the Crucial board aren't ecstatic about the #000F version I replaced.

No success yet, but one step closer.  Appreciate your feedback and certainly open to more advice

I'm now pretty convinced that eh Crucial drive is NOT the problem. I replaced the Crucial with a WD 320 GB WD3200BEVT. Same issues.  Also, I installed an Asus 210 silent graphics card.  I disabled the onboard graphics and the probelem persisted.  So now I'm thinkiing that the Crucial and the AMD onboard APU graphics are not the issue.  That leaves me with the power supply or the motherboard as the culprit.  I'd really like to hear from Gigabyte on this one.  Any ideas greatly appreciated.

Same problem as alligator. 880GMA-USB3.

The computer won't wake from sleep correctly; the disk spins up and the fans continuously ramp up and down. No display on the monitor. What's more, the computer doesn't respond to the reset button being pressed, and needs shutting down via the power button.

I believe the problem arose after installing a discrete video card in the motherboard (which has integrated graphics, since disabled in the BIOS).

The issue was with the Gigabyte GA-F2A75M-D3H.  After lots and lots of fiddling, testing and replacing I installed a new ASUS F2A85-M PRO and my HTPC now runs like a champ and behaves properly.  I'll be returning the Gigabyte board.

I have exactly same issue that the video stays black when resuming from suspend. I tried many OS. It seems to be a motherboard bios issue. I will look if I can replace this motherboard for Asus. I should have pay for the 10 bucks extra from the start. Grrrr
Never again GA !

As an  aside comment - many (some?) low end graphic cards (chip sets) do not support wake from sleep. I had a Nvidiia 6200 card that just did not support wake from sleep. It would only initialize when powered up. Out of sleep it stayed black.
