Question About Drivers
« on: December 08, 2012, 06:18:26 pm »
I have a question regarding drivers for my motherboard/system. I have a GA-Z77X-UD5H motherboard and I don't have a RAID set up. Just your regular 128gb SSD, 1tb HDD & 2 300gb HDDs installed in my set up. My question is regarding the drivers under SATA RAID/AHCI categories in the Gigabyte driver download page.

Do I need any of these:

Intel® Rapid Storage Technology

Hot fix
(Note) After installed IRST 11.6 driver, please install Hot fix.

Intel SATA Preinstall driver
(For AHCI / RAID Mode)
Note: Press F6 during Windows setup to read from floppy.

Marvell Preinstall Driver
Note: Press F6 during Windows setup to read from floppy.

Marvell Storage Utility

Marvell SATA Controller Driver

I have no clue what those do, but I can't help to think that those drivers could boost my system performance.  I have a 3570k CPU, 8gb of ram, 670gtx for the rest of my components (listing them in case they are relevant).

Thanks!

preinstall driver is for you to use it when you install OS on intel or marvel controller and you cannot see your hdd during installation.
if you didn't set intel controller to raid, you don't need to install irst 11.6.
if you don't have any hdd on marvell controller, you don't need to install its dirver or utility.
