GA-EP41-UD3L and memory

Hi,

I am new to this forum and am hoping that I have posted this in the correct section.

I have recently brought a GA-EP41-UD3L as a replacement to an intel dp35dp.

I have used all my old parts from my PC so have now connected 3 SATA HDD, 1 SATA DVD, 2 PATA DVD drives, 1 nvidia 8800 gts card, 2 pci-e tv cards and a 3ghz dual core processor.
I am now slightly stuck on the RAM. I used to have 6GB on the old board, 2 * TWIN2X2048-6400C5DHX (corsair 2GB module) and 2 * TWIN2X2048-6400C4 (corsair 1GB module).
The 2GB ram chips work fine when they are in by themselves
the 1GB ram chips work fine when they are in by themselves
when I try to put the 2 * 2GB ram and the 2* 1GB ram chips in (in any possible combination) it does not even start up.

The 1GB chips are supposed to run @ 2.0v but under the specs can be run @ 1.8V at lower FSB.
the 2GB chips are supposed to run @ 1.8v @ 800mhz.

I am really stumped.

So my question (after the above rambling) is
a) Is there anyway to get the above chips to work together?
b) If I brought two more of the 2GB chips would they work? or is the issue todo with the amount of memory?

hi,
depends on you o/s 32 bit will only see 3.2 due to limitation by m/soft,
unless you are running 64 bit o/s you wont see any advantage with 6gb
check your manual for  memory compatability / slot configurations and the max amount of installed,
i'm not very techie but the voltage/fsb should be the same, or they will revert to the slower speed, I might be wrong,

I am running win 7 64 bit so the more mem the better .

Will post if I find anything about FSB / Voltage etc

Right have done some reading and have figured it out.
the month board allows for 2 * DS (double sided) or 4 * SS (single sided).
The 2 * 2GB are both DS so use 2 channels each (noted that in the boot text it said
DDR2_1 = 2 GB (or somert) and then under channel is said 0 1. when I added the next it said 0 1 2 3.

So I guess unless I buy 4 GB chips can't use anymore than 4gb

8 gb?, unless you are doing a lot of video rendering photo work is not going to make your system any noticibly faster,
And 4gb sticks will cost you a fortune!!
Your choice tho,

Yeah I have just been reading up on it, will leave it as 4GB for the time being, as 4GB kingston module is around £100  which is a little bit to much.

Will see if the media center has any noticeable difference, if there is I will possibly fork out for one. possibly two.
