List of devices doesn't clear
« on: December 23, 2012, 06:54:29 am »
Hi.

Gigabyte GA-Z77X-UD5H / F15

After doing some Windows7/Ubuntu test installs on subject motherboard, I kept on having 2 entries in the list of devices to be booted from.

UEFI: WDC WD1000FYPS-01ZKB1
ubuntu

The HDD "WDC WD1000FYPS-01ZKB1" is physically disconnected from the motherboard.
"Load Optimized Defaults" didn't help.
Using the CMOS_SW (PSU was powered off before) to clear the CMOS settings didn't help.
Even taking out the battery didn't clear the entries (only date & time).

BBIOS (F8) doesn't show the HDD entries.

Strange!

Shouldn't I get rid of the drive entry with the methods I used above?
Is this a bug?

Thanks,

I did some more testing with firmware F14 and F13.

After test installs of Windows7 and Ubuntu 12.10 Desktop 64-bit. I noticed that the Boot Menu (key F12) shows "ubuntu" even after I disconnected all HDDs, removed all USB stciks and all CD/DVDs.

How is that possible ???. There's nothing connected to the computer which saves data, except the BIOS DRAM. Does this one store (historical) devices which were bootable once?

Strange that nobody knows anything about this ... ?!
I found this: http://info-coach.fr/pc/hardware/AsusP8P67/Asus-UEFI.php

It's from ASUS and 2011, but the BIOS description reflects more or less what I experience with my Gigabyte motherboard.

Found that efibootmgr (Linux) is required to clear that entry which is obviously stored in the NVRAM of UEFI.
Would be good if UEFI interface would allow deleting and/or creating such an entry.
