GA-MA790X-UD4P & 8GB G.Skill DDR2 1066
« on: January 12, 2010, 08:49:55 pm »
As stated in the topic heading, I have a GA-MA790X-UD4P and 4x2GB G.Skill DDR2 1066. Problem is, it won't run @ 1066. The system automatically runs it  @ 800MHz. If I run just 4GB or 2x2GB it works fine @ 1066. With 8GB however even if I manually set the timings, multiplier and Voltage to 2.1V it won't even get past the Splash screen.

Any suggestions? or is this a hardware limitation?

Not overly familiar with AMD stuff, but i'm pretty sure when running 8GB its limted to 800mhz

Hi,

I think that you will find this is a hardware limitation as the following quote was lifted from the Gigabyte Qualified Vendors List (QVL) for this board.
Quote
Note: Due to AMD AM3/AM2+ CPU limitation, memory module DDR2 1066 or above speed is only supported by 1 dimm per channel.

Hope this helps.

I'm running 8 gigs of Kingston hyper x ram at 1066 with the same MB. I have set the voltage and timings to what is recommended by the manufacture. Having said that the benefit of 8 gigs at 800 verses 1066 is not noticeable.
PS. What cpu do you have.
