New Gigabyte mobo

I m thinking about replace my current mobo with GA-970A-UD3.
I ll put ga-ma 770t-ud3 in another system(in which usb2.0 doesnt work).
Ga-970a-ud3 has sata3(for my new sata3 ssd) and better heatsinks which means cooler devices, right?

Normally yes but i have seen a few complaint about that board having a semi hot northebridge. Nothing that a little mod by putting a fan on it wouldnt fix. Overall id say it was a good choice and the number of complaints is about 3 i have seen so not much compared to how many have been sold.

I heard that this mobo requires a 500W psu, is it true?
Mine is only 450W.

So you say that nothbridge gets hot. I wont o/c but because all my devices are fanless, I m looking for a really cool gigabyte mobo, do u have to suggest something?

A good 450W power supply is ok ,but it really depends on the CPU and video card used.Power consumption of the board itself is small.
Make sure you are getting latest version of  970A-UD3.

So what CPU and video card are you using with it ?!
Phenom 2  975/980/1100T or the top FX 8xxx require 600 W power supply i would say.
You wouldn t use such CPU-s with some low end video cards wouldn t you
Keep in mind that a FX 8xxx overclocked with high voltage  can reach 180 W itself.

So it was wrong what I saw in Newegg, its not necessary by deafult  a 500W psu for this mobo.
Cpu and vga are visible in my sign(max tdp 95+75W). We have same ram!
I wont o/c.
When u say about latest version u mean the revision, right? I m afraid I cant control that.
Whats better in the latest revision(3.0)?

If the power supply is old it may start failing sooner or later.
I would get a "real" 550/600W PSU(35Ampers on the 12V line minimum) for that CPU+video card combination.
This may allow you to even try and unlock that 2 cores that are disabled just safely.
If you want cheaper power supplies get Chieftec or Sirtec ,they should be good enough. 

Latest revision is 3.0 and has UEFI interface instead of BIOS interface.It is what version 1.0 should of have to be.

Probability to get version 1.0  if the board is sold as new is minimal in stores that sell a lot.

This psu is more than enough for the system.
According psu calculator(http://www.extreme.outervision.com/PSUEngine) I need maximum 250-300W[I count 9800gt as regular].

I have it since 10/2010 and works well until now.
I have another one since 2009 into my other system/htpc.

What do u mean "get a real"? Are you under the impression that my Silverstone is not real?
Anyway, I d get only a fanless one.
About unclocking, you know my friend I do not want to unlock. 6 cores means more heat, and I always try to avoid heat because of my totally fanless system

The power supply is good ,but years of usage lower the watts capability ,capacitors get old and sudden resets or instability may arrive or damage components due to overshots.
Your budget your choice.

Now here is the general rule for PSU. You always want a single 12 volt rail which is what you have. 35 amps on the 12v rail is really good.
Every year of use your PSU drops an average of 5% so if you follow that thought you are down to the minimum of 30 amps on the 12v rail in 2 years.
If the specs for your computer call for 500 watt never buy less than a 600 watt for about 5 years average of no worries. The harder you work a PSU as in say you are using 60% of it then the 5% drops down a bit because you are not stressing it.
If you are using 80 to 85% of it then you are back up to the 5% rule and plan accordingly.

On a sidenote silverstone is one of the BEST PSU you can buy and last a long time with little drop. I bought a silverstone strider 1000 watt 5 years ago and it has power my computer fine and i use all high end parts. The last test i did about a year ago my PSU was still pushing 975 watts real power so you made a good choice for your build in that PSU. As long as you dont upgrade much and mainly video card then you should be fine.

In my htpc I have

I have replied to the thread you are talking about.

Checking the power supply for power delivery means doing more than checking some software utility .
Nevertheless you can very well get the system complete and power it.
If it takes the load of a game like a BF 3 with no instability than maybe you can still use it.If you have a multimeter and you know what you are doing you can very well measure some voltages right when the system is fully loaded and check if the voltages stay in specification under load.
You might be able to give it to your friend and get something better as well.

I also replied but i dont trust software caculators or even ones like extreme PSU caculators i go by the single 12 volt rail rule and a decent brand. In ones i build ( everyone wants cheap) i have put in 350Watt PSU and have them last 3 to 5 years it all depends on the load you are putting on it.
