GA-F2A85XM-D3H randomly shuts off

I'm running a GA-F2A85XM-D3H with an A10-5800K, 16 Gigs of Corsair Memory, and a 600W OCZ MODXTREME PRO power supply. My system seems to shut itself off at random. When it shuts off, i need to HARD RESET the power supply before it will turn on again. How can i troubleshoot this issue?

Edit: I've updated to bios F2...thank god for DualBios, it shut down in the middle of the update. however, after the update, it hasn't happened yet. I'll update here when it does. I'd still like to see what's causing this, so if there's some bios log or something i can look at, i'd appreciate any help.

Edit again: Ok, it's happened again, and now it's worse. If i try to turn the system on again, all that happens is the lights in my case fan go on for about half a second and then shut off again. I'm suspecting it's the power supply, but i can't be sure. Does anyone have any advice?

Try a different PSU or if you have had the computer for awhile try blowing it out sometimes fan draw enough dust to cause overheating problems.
If you try another PSU try to make sure it is a single rail 12v with at least 30 amps on that single 12v rail.

The only other power supply i have is rather old and lacks the extra 8 pin connector for the motherboard...is it safe to boot the system without it? This older supply is 550W and should be able to power the system...

edit: nevermind, that old supply seems to have met an unfortunate end...i'll have to scrounge one up from somewhere...

The OCZ may have bulged caps ,try and get it repaired it might be possible.

Is there any way I can check if the OCZ has bulged caps? It's brand new, i got it yesterday, maybe I can return it

If it s new RMA.I thought it s old so you had nothing to lose.

RMA the PSU and hope for the best.

Hey, I found a power supply that i can test with, but it only has a 4 pin CPU molex plug, not 8 pin like my motherboard. Can i test with this supply? should i plug the 4 pin plug in, or should i omit it entirely? note, i'm not going to plug hard drives or anything or boot an operating system, so the load will be minimal...

Cant omit it or it wont boot you can use a 4 pin on a motherboard wiwth 8 pin connector isnt a good idea to keep doing it though. I did it until i bought another 8 pin PSU.

With CPU-s from the lower shelf you can use a 4 pin CPU connector(if you take a look at some other manufacturer you will see them using 4 pins CPU connectors).
It s about the ampers needed by the CPU.
The more amps needed  the more wire gauge is needed.More parallel wires more amps and less stress on the connectors ,thus lower risk of melting or oxidation or power waste along the wires thru heat.
As you are using a high end APU i would use the 4 wire connector only for a short period of time.
Maybe you can find some adapter from molex to add another 4 pin in there.

Exact same motherboard and CPU - and the exact same problem (even after updating to F2) - with two different brand-new power supplies.
First PS was a Thermaltake TR2-600W, second is a Seasonic Bronze 420W 80Plus unit.

I originally had four 8G DIMMs installed, went down to 2 to see if that made a difference...  No dice.

What's fixed the problem so far, is going into the BIOS, advanced voltage settings, and switching everything from "Auto" to "Standard" or "Normal".  Give that a shot.

Exact same motherboard and processor, had processor RMAd, no difference, tried three different power supplies, 600W 650W & 700W, Corsair vengeance 16GB RAM, have so far had three different video cards, 2GB HD6670 DDR3 Ram, 2GB HD6570 DDR3 RAM & 2GB HD6450 DDR3 RAM, added more powerful cooler, none of which made a difference. ET6 does not let you tweak Video settings, as does AMD vision engine control center. I have been trying to get this working since early Dec to no avail, the only software I have run on it so far is Nero12 which is so buggy  as to be useless.

Gigabyte issued a BIOS update, slightly more stable but still hanging so badly that you have to switch off the PSU, or it just reboots in the middle of anything.

Does anyone have any magic fixes that make this mobo work.

I have worked in IT since 1972 and this has to be the worst hardware I have ever worked with, thinking about asking for an RMA of mobo and APU and get something else altogether as life is too short to spend the amount of time I have spent on this.

Hi folks.
I've just built a new system with similar setup, all new components including a heat sink + fan the size of the UK  and I've had the same fault. High temperatures, randomly shutting down due to the heat. The temperature even goes up to 90 degrees C while in the bios, fans running at full speed Tried updating the bios to F2 but no good. can anyone help please.

Seems to be some thermal protection kicking in.
Maybe you should check the APU in some another system as well.
A bad mobo sensor can generate this as well as an overheating APU.

You can RMA the board or exchange the board for another if store policy allows.
Same goes for the APU.

This making the presumption you know how to install the CPU cooler properly.
