GA-MA790GP-DS4H: No POST, no BIOS, black screen.

GA-MA790GP-DS4H: No POST, no BIOS, black screen.
« on: February 17, 2013, 07:29:49 am »
I have a Gigabyte GA-MA790GP-DS4H with AMD Phenom™ 9650 Quad-Core Processor.
Also Corsair 2 × 2GB RAM and ATI Radeon HD 3300 Graphics which came with the motherboard.

I started the PC and surfed the web for 15 mins.
Then started playing Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 and played for about 30 seconds when the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 sound just disappeared during which my screen went completely black.
No keys or anything was working.

So I turned it of using the power switch in which the plug was plugged in.

I start it and now it just won't start.

There's just black screen when I start it.
Not even does the BIOS show up.
But the fans are spinning.
If I keep it on just like that for a while then after sometime it shuts off automatically and the fans stop spinning.

I tried cleaning up the inside of the PC, opened the SMPS and cleaned it up, reinserted the RAM and even tried another SMPS but all in vain.
Still having the same issue.

When I remove RAM and start, there are beeping sounds but when the RAM is in, no beeping sounds.

I have all ready reattached all wires and the processor but all in vain.
I even tried one RAM chip at a time.

Dismantle the PC ,and after you take the mobo out of the case remove the battery for one day ,then rebuild it.Make sure you re-seat everything including the CPU.

It may be related to the north-bridge chip (that includes the onboard VGA).

Check visually the mobo.
Over & Out !

AMD FX (APU-s included) users should install - KB2645594 & KB2646060 under Windows 7

1.ASUS Sabertooth 990FX 2.0 + FX 6300 + H60
2.MSI A88X-G41 PC Mate + A8 5600K + Hyper TX 2
3.Gigabyte F2A75-D3H + A4 5300
4.ASUS AM1M-A + Athlon 5150

Okay this might some interestingly weird s*** to read.

So I reassembled the PC.
I removed every freaking part and even removed the Motherboard from the cabinet.
I cleaned it again (too much dust below the above part of the Silent-Pipe).

I reset the BIOS by removing the battery for 23 hours.

Yet, to confirm, I put the battery back in, touched the jumper with a screwdriver and started the PC.
Once again there was a black screen.

Then I proceeded to remove the screwdriver from the jumper and it hit the back fan which does spin really fast.
My firm on the screwdriver was not tight enough and after hitting the fan it flew from my hands and hit hard on the motherboard somewhere near the RAM chips.

Suddenly my screen gave some output after a long time.
It was a black screen with a old typing cursor like a small blinking underscore, "_", on the top left side and was stuck there.

And I was like,
"What the hell just happened?".

And I just noticed that when the power is plugged in and the PC is off the CPU fan is spinning a very little and it keeps moving back and forth and the Power LED is blinking very very slightly.
But this happened only once.

After restarting, the LED stopped blinking and the fan stopped spinning but the main problem still persists.

Luckily the screwdriver was not a knife :)

Keep in mind you should never Clear CMOS while the motherboard is receiving power.
NEVER!

So practically the screw driver was thrown towards the RAM slot or towards the power cable ?!

Maybe the power connector is a little loose "tired" connector.See what happens if you jiggle it while the PC is turned on ?!
What power supply are you using ?!

You could also move the RAM sticks in the other 2 slots (when the PC is off) ,this in case there is a problem with the first 2 DRAM slots ,bad contacts.

Anyway if you are having some known to work power supply around test with that one too.It might be some power supply related problem .

I don't know that is going on exactly but when I reseted the BIOS when the PC was receiving power (as in the screwdriver was touching the jumper and I pressed the power ON button) the PC started and got stuck on the BIOS screen.

Also, I am getting these extremely short beeps after every three seconds.

Maybe this can be helpful related to beep codes : http://pcsupport.about.com/od/fixtheproblem/tp/award-beep-codes.htm

My opinion is to start swapping components to rule out some of them.

-Get some other RAM and test with
-Get another PSU and test with
-Get a video card and test with
-Put all your components into another compatible working motherboard

Nothing else to do.Also Clearing CMOS during power ON results in BIOS damage,Don t do this with any working motherboard.

Maybe other users have more ideas into this matter.

I tried all of this.
Nothing worked.
What apart from this can go wrong with a motherboard. :(
I even gave it for repair and they couldn't find anything.

Please throw some ideas at me. :(
