Rear USB 3.0 ports on 990FXA-UD5 have stopped working!
« on: March 21, 2013, 06:58:28 am »
Hey guys,
Sorry if this is a duplicate thread, I searched and wasn't able to find this exact issue on the forum. My system is about 2-3 weeks old and consists of:

AMD FX-8350
Gigabyte 990FXA-UD5 rev 1.x
Gigabyte GV-R7870C-2GD
G. Skill Sniper RAM 2 x 8 GB
Rosewill Xtreme 750W PSU
Samsung 830 128GB SSD
Seagate Barracuda 2TB HDD
Samsung SH 224BB DVD-RW
TP-Link 450Mbps Wireless Card
Rosewill Challenger U3 Case
Win 7 Pro OS

Basically, just over the past week my rear USB 3.0 ports simply stopped working. My Xbox 360 Wireless Receiver was plugged into one and when I turned my PC on a few days ago it wasn't working. The receiver worked fine in that slot until then. I plugged it into a USB 2.0 port and it began working again, so the problem isn't the receiver itself. Today I tried to plugin an external HDD that I'm using for backups and system images into both of the rear USB 3.0 slots and that wouldn't work either. I've installed the latest Etron USB drivers from the Gigabyte website and still no go. Is there another set of drivers I need to install, or is there something in BIOS that I need to change? Any help would be highly appreciated!

Unfortunately the Etron USB 3.0 controllers are erratic sometimes.

I have myself issues with the controllers on a 970-UD3 getting an exclamation mark randomly (but never both of them at once front and rear) ,then fixing themselves at a restarts ,it happens in XP and W7  :)
Drivers are bad and maybe the firmwares do the same.
I personally turned them off.

There may be some conflict between the controllers and some driver (mostly AMD drivers) or hardware installed ,feel free to investigate.

AMD FX (APU-s included) users should install - KB2645594 & KB2646060 under Windows 7

Which drivers are you using for the Etron USB 3.0?

Remember, when all else fails a cup of tea and a good swear will often help! It won't solve the problem but it will make you feel better.

I have had this problem in the past. There are two possible solutions.

1.  Check in the BIOS to see if BOTH usb3 are turned on.  Sometimes when updating the BIOS you might forget to turn
one of them back ON.  I think default is off.

2.  The second solution would be to UNINSTALL the ETON drivers completely and then install the drivers fresh. Sometimes
the drivers  done not  install OVER ( or uninstall ) the old drivers correctly.  Three different times this was the solution that
worked for me.

Good Luck
