GA-X79-UP4 stuck on start up screen

GA-X79-UP4 stuck on start up screen
« on: April 27, 2013, 04:50:38 am »
Newbie here. First post. I am building a new computer and testing it outside the case. When I start it up, I get to the start up screen with "gigabyte ultra durable 5" and the options:

DEL: BIOS SETUP\Q-FLASH
F9: SYSTEM INFORMATION
F12: BOOT MENU
END: Q-FLASH

None of those buttons do anything when i push them. CTRL-ALT-DEL will restart it, so i know the keyboard works; and if I don't do anything, it goes to a black screen. Tried resetting the CMOS and Rearranging the RAM. Any advice would be helpful.

My setup:
GA-X79-UP4 rev 1.0
Intel i7 3820
Team Vulcan 2x4GB 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 RAM
GIGABYTE GV-N660OC-2GD GeForce GTX 660
Cosair TX750
Mushkin Enhanced Chronos Deluxe MKNSSDCR60GB-DX 2.5" 60GB SATA III Synchronous MLC Internal Solid State Drive
Asus black BD-ROM

Make sure that you have the ram in the right slots. On one side slot 1 and  on the other side slot 2.

^RAM has nothing with this. ???

Try to choose different USB port for keyboard (or maybe with PS/2 extention).
Must pressing DEL to enter the BIOS and set booting order.

I tried both, still no luck. CTRL-ALT-DEL works, so I don't think it is the keyboard. Is there anyway to tell what version of bios I have without going into bios? If that  is going to help at all.

No,you must went to BIOS first.
One more time try to clear CMOS and take out battery for 30 min (unplug power cord also).
Any old keyboard to try?

Second think is to try reflash Main BIOS with Backup,so before Splash screen fast hitting ALT+F10 .

i got it to work. I read on another forum to use a old video card to boot up. I guess the MB doesn't recognize the gtx 660, hopefully it is not dead.

I have two of the x79 boards and if you don't have the memory in the right slots it will boot. But it will give you a black screen or what was happening to the OP. I have already Tested it for somebody that was having a problem with his memory.

Plus I had the same problem with a His 7850 card that it would boot but with a black screen in my x79-UD3. It work fine in my x79-UP4.

Just make sure you update your bios to the latest bios too. Get from Tweaktown too. If you don't have the latest bios it will show the wrong temp in the bios for your CPU.

Same exact problem! What if you don't have another video card to try?
