GA-A55M-DS2 REV 3.0 will not boot -
« on: May 10, 2013, 12:36:42 am »
Hello. I just put together a computer and I cannot get it to boot. It has an AMD Quad-Core A8-3850 CPU, 600W PSU, 4GB RAM stick (in slot 1).
The only things I have connected are the CPU, 20+4 pin connector, ATX 12V 4-pin connector, power switch pin, monitor to VGA onboard and 1 RAM stick in slot 1 (closest to 24-pin connector). It powers on, you can hear everything start trying to load and after a few seconds, the loading sounds disappear, but the fans are still running and lights are on.
Tried with a different RAM stick. Removed battery for a few minutes. Removed MOBO from case and tried to boot. Same issue.
The light on the front of the case flashes, but I cannot find anything to indicate what the flashing means.
Any suggestions?

Greetings,

A couple of things:

Hook up the case speaker.  The beeps will tell you something about the boot process.  Make sure the memory is installed *exactly* as instructed in the mother board manual.  Disconnect the hard drive.  Put the case on it's side so you can see if the processor fan is spinning.  If you can get to the boot screen reinstall the hard drive.  In the boot process the monitor should first message 'no input' or some such and then show 'connection' or some such.

These are kinda generic things.  The beep codes will tell you a lot.  You'll have to google to find out what they mean if they're not in the manual.

This is a brand new computer. As I mentioned above, I do not have a hard drive connected. I have never gotten anything to appear on the monitor. I have the motherboard speaker connected but I have never heard it make a sound. Not sure why. Everything turns on, sounds like it's trying to boot, then all working sounds stop but all fans are running and the light on the case is blinking.

If you have no HDD connected how do you know it tries to boot ?! :)

1.Get a real power supply ,something like a Corsair 430 CX and test
2.Move the RAM stick to the other slot
3.Check where you ve connected the speaker and the leds as it looks like you ve placed them wrong or something. You should hear beeps and those beeps will help us help you.
4.Use the DVI output as well ,maybe the VGA is secondary or something.

I would like to see the exact configuration ,all components listed with the specs they have ,including the PSU and the monitor you are using.

Also take a look at the stand off s used ,maybe there is a short somewhere.Maybe the damage has been made into this matter. One to many and the board may be killed.

Oh and disconnect all USB devices as well or USB front panel connectors.

Well you threw me off when you wrote that the case light was flashing.  Usually the light represents hard disk activity.  Almost sounds like the speaker plug (often four pins) is overlapping the disk activity posts (usually two pins).

If there are no beeps and there is power to the board I'm inclined to think the board is doa.  Though it could be the power supply or even the cpu.  You wrote that you tried with the board out the case with the same results.  Hopefully someone with some more experience will chime in here.  Do you have another psu to try?

Sorry I can't be more help.  I've never had a build where the board didn't at least beep.  Googling indicated that you're not alone but there were no clear cut indications that cpu or mb were the culprits.

He can t hear beeps because the beeper is placed wrong and the led is "beeping"instead :)

I had that happen once years ago. What i found is that when i installed the heatsink on the cpu i didnt know it had a plastic cover on it and so it would boot fans would spin but no output at all. I finally tore it all down to see what it was and as i said i didnt taker the plastic cover off the heatsink. Make sure your power leads and so on ar all hooked up right Vezina seems about right on the speaker issue sounds like you have your speaker plugged in wrong.
