Unable to boot from USB 3.0 - GA-790XTA-UD4
« on: May 15, 2013, 08:48:47 pm »
I am trying to boot an OS installed on an external USB drive (Western Digital Passport). I can boot from USB 2.0 ports but not the 3.0 ports. I've tried multiple BIOs and adjusting most USB-related settings. Same drive will boot from USB 3.0 ports on a different mobo.

Any ideas?

You can not boot from USB3.0 unless it is included in the  motherboard chipset like USB2.0 is.

On most motherboards the USB3.0 chip is a separate 3rd party chip, therefor it is not recognized
until a driver file  is loaded in the operating system.

Got it. The motherboard that I can boot from is much newer. It probably has an onboard USB 3.0 chip.

I meant to say that usb3.0 must be in the AMD or Intel chipset itself not an ADDITIONAL chip on the motherboard.
Any ADDITIONAL USB3.0 chip  is NOT recognized during boot.  It is only recognized by the operating system after a driver is added.
