f2a85xm-d3h & A10 5800k
« on: June 04, 2013, 03:43:14 pm »
Hi guys can someone please help me out, this is my first build and im about ready to  :'(

CPU AMD A10 5800K Black Edition 3.8GHz Socket FM2 4MB L2 Cache
RAM Kingston 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 1066Mhz Memory Kit CL7 1.5V Unbuffered Non-ECC
Motherboard Gigabyte GA-F2A85XM-D3H A85X Socket FM2 VGA DVI HDMI 7.1 Channel Audio mATX
Video Card
PSU Corsair CX750M 750W

Basically when i turn the comp on it all seems like its about to boot up but then the CPU fan stops and then nothing at all, i did think it was a power issue as i had a 450W PSU but have just swapped it out for a 750W and the same thing, i cant get to bios and hear no beeps

any thoughts? something im doing or a part not working?

A10-5800K
Supported memory: DDR3-1866

I would recommend using DDR3-1866 or DDR3-1600 instead of DDR3-1066.

Greetings,

Did you use the kingston website to identify comparable memory?  If not I suggest you do.

However, the gigabyte website memory list does show support for 1066 memory ... but in 1 or 2 g size.  Strange.  Expect they just did not test many sticks at this speed and size.

The fact that there is no beep code indicates something else than memory might be going on.  First question is, did you hook up the case speaker correctly?  Be sure to check for polarity - positive for positive.  Second, make sure the cpu power (4 or 8 pin) is correct.  If your using a 4 pin plug in an 8 pin socket it's possible to get it placed incorrectly. And, that the 20/24 power connector is tight.

Last test, take the memory and video card out and see if you get any beeps.

Hi, thank you for the reply,

i havent checked the website but thats my next thing to do, i was recommended the bits for this comp by a friend who i thought knew what he was doing and is now no where to been seen so im a bit in the deep end

im sure the speaker is correctly wired and all the other bits of the f hitter are working, red + and black - on the speaker?

iv also just taken the memory out and tried it but back to everything sounding like its gonna start then the cpu fan stops and nothing, no beeps

hi pgag66,

I'm suspicious that the speaker is not hooked up correctly.  The mb manual will indicate pos and neg for the speaker pins.  the case male connector will have a dimple or some marking on the positive side.  It is really easy to get those reversed or on the wrong pins down in the cavity of the case.  You might pull all the case plugs and start over - very carefully matching the polarity - with just the power and speaker connected.

You might think about pulling the system apart and putting it together on a sheet of cardboard or other none conductive material.  The thought here is that the board is somehow grounding itself in the case, but wouldn't outside.

Do remember to *not* use the video card.  Hook the monitor to the mb output.  Use vga/d-sub connector.

So.  Basic is: one mb, power to brd power, cpu power, cpu cooler power; spkr, power headers connected.  One stick of memory in first slot as recommened in the manual.  Monitor connected by vga. keybrd and mouse connected.

Can't think of anything else right now other than it sounds like a short somewhere or the mb is doa.

Hi, yeah there is an arrow on the + side of the speaker so im sure thats correct but even so i swapped it round and still no joy

il try the just the power a speaker see if that does anything failing that il put it all apart 2morro

iv 2 quick and possible very silly questions but could poss be shorting it out?

1 - the mb stand offs, im sure they were all in the correct location, but 8 were needed and in the pack were (with the case) 7 of 1 kind and then 2 with a cpl of extra mm of thread at the top, i did use both of them and 6 of the others could that short it out?

2 - and the case iv got Coolermaster Elite 371 and when u pop the front cover off on the left hand side of the space for the first drive is a black wire screwed on to where i would put a screw to reattach the plate (they snap out to get the drives in), any way should it be there? it leads back into where all the f front panel wires are from the power/reset and usbs on the front

thanks for your help its very much appreciated

Hi,

regarding the heatsink ... if the glue worked it will not come off easily

I'm not following this.  Would ask for pictures but I expect you're pretty frustrated by now .....

To reduce further temptation to send it all down the food disposal .. <g>  I would literally take the who thing apart and set it aside for 24 hours.  Then hook the board up on a piece of cardboard as has been pointed out: mb, memory stick, speaker cable, power.  If it's no beeps, rma the thing.  Then again if your friend who recommended this build is around, let him try to make it work.  If neither of you can, rma the mb.

Seems like it should be a nice build except for the memory.  And, I guess, I'd try some memory sticks more in line with probable standard setup, ie 1600 mhz anyway.  But, you do *not* want to run over your rma period.  Dead mb's don't even make nice paperweights.  Nothing more I can offer, Vezina covered the othe points.
