GA-Z87X-UD3H not using HD 6950 in any PCIE slot

Hello,

I have a strange issue with the GA-Z87X-UD3H and my Sapphire HD 6950 video card.

With the video card installed in either the PCIEx16 or PCIEx8 slot, the BIOS logo screen will not display and will go straight to booting Windows.  So I couldn't adjust the BIOS  settings at all.

If the GPU is out of the motherboard, I can see the BIOS logo and go into the UEFI BIOS setup.

The strange thing is that Windows detects the video OK but no video signal is sent through the motherboard to the GPU during POST.

I have updated the BIOS to F5 which is the latest stable one from the Gigabyte UK site.  This BIOS still displays this strange behaviour.

I've spent hours playing around with BIOS settings to get it working but no luck.

Is there in incompatibility with my GPU? Is my only solution is to get a new video card?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

One thing to add, the HD 6950 worked perfectly fine with my GA-EP45-UD3R rev. 1.1 motherboard.  This new Haswell setup has replaced the socket 775 motherboard.

These boards boot so fast today that you really have to watch your keyboard.

When the lights on the keyboard blink for the caps & #locks start hitting the Del key.

My Ga-X79-up4 board does the same thing. That is what I do to get into the bios.

Spamming the DEL key doesn't seem to work, goes straight into the Windows diagnostic screen.

What I did try was (which didn't work in the end):
- Take the GPU out, unplug all hard drives and optical drives.
- Boot and go into UEFI BIOS.
- Set "Init First Display" to PCIe1
- Set "Internal Graphics" to disabled.
- Save BIOS settings & reboot.
- Power down computer.
- Install GPU into 16x PCIE slot.
- Turn computer back on and boot.

Luckily I have 2 monitors so 1 is plug into the DVI of the onboard GPU while the 2nd monitor is attached to the HD 6950, what I get are blank screens after doing the above.

Well a new video card worked, now got an Nvidia 660 TI which did not have any double beeps during POST.

I have got the same problem as you. BIOS will not boot with my GPU plugged in. I'm on an MSI 7970 and it only boots with on board graphics (with the GPU removed/power unplugged)

My BIOS version is F5, the latest stable one from Gigabyte.

Running a Z87x-Dd3H.

I don't have a spare video card for me to swap around to see if it is a video card issue, I did log a ticket for technical support and currently am waiting for a reply.

Hoping Gigabyte would make this a priority fix for the BIOS.

Try to press DEL key once per second immediately after pressing soft power on button on your chassis

Hey,

Hitting DEL at the time did not do anything.

My issue was resolved by buying a new graphics card (moved from AMD 6950 to Nvidia 660ti) so it is just incompatible hardware with the new Haswell boards.

I don't have the AMD card anymore but I believe these issues will eventually sort itself out when the board matures with newer BIOS updates and/or the board gets a revision 1.1 in the future.

I have the same problem   
Gigabyte Radeon HD 6950 and GA-Z87X-UD3H that is not working together for dome reason.
I updated the BIOS to F6k but it doesn't solved the problem.

Ok, I have a workaround 
Power the PC without the card and enter to the BIOS.
Set the "Init Display First" to "IGFX" (the onboard graphics).
Save and power off the PC.
Plug your card into the motherboard and power on your PC.
Make sure that one of your monitors is connected to the onboard gust to make the changes in your OS.

Its ok if you want to use the onboard as your primary graphics.  I didn't want that though, my setup is dual screen on a GPU with onboard completely disabled.  There was still a problem with the HD 6950 being a primary graphics with this board which really shouldn't be a problem at all.

I have 3 monitors connected to the PC.
You can leave the onboard unplugged and define in windows the primary monitor.
In this case you will not see any activity on the monitor until you get into windows.
