USB DOM not showing in BIOS

USB DOM not showing in BIOS
« on: June 10, 2013, 12:29:56 pm »
We recently bought four GA-B75-D3V(rev. 1.1) boards to replace some old server kit (two to use and two spares).
One of the boards was installed and booted immediately to the OS without any problems or changes made in the BIOS.
The OS we are using is called Open-e and is hosted on a USB DOM that plugs directly onto the motherboard with the F_USB1 port.
This board is working perfectly and the OS runs fine.

The Second board on the other hand is causing us some real problems.
The system will not boot to the USB DOM and will not even see it in BIOS.
We have tried the DOM on the other board and it works perfectly and we have tried both of the spare motherboards.

We have been through the BIOS setting one page at a time to see if there is any difference in the setting from the working machine to the non-working and we cannot find anything.
The only thing that jumps out is on the peripherals page; on the working board under “Port 60/64 Emulation” there is “USB Storage Device” this is not present on the non-working board.
We have done all of the obvious things, Clear BIOS, Update BIOS to F8.

What am I missing?

Thanks

Hi scsitsupport,

Welcome to forum,

What is a version of DSS -  Data Storage Software? V6 or V7

Manual and guide:
http://www.open-e.com/download/manuals-and-quickstarts/

You are in situation 32bit or 64bit system? And OS?

Are you in RAID situation?

Have you plugged on internal USB headers 3.0/2.0 ports ?
Or on internal USB headers 2.0/1.1 ports?
Have you tried all the headers? One by one?

from boot loader command line... have you a message, a error code ?

Otherwise, have you use this forum?
http://forum.open-e.com/

Perhaps more could you help here?

I'm not saying we do not want to help you, but your situation is special.

In the Manual, Section Peripheral, page 47:
(See picture page 45)

Port 60/64 Emulation
Enables  or disables emulation of I/O ports 64h and 60h.
This should be enabled for full legacy support for USB  keyboards/mice in MS-DOS
or in operating system that does not natively support USB devices.
(Default: Disabled)

Maybe choose Enabled.

Legacy USB Support
Allows USB keyboard/mouse to be used in MS-DOS.
(Default: Enabled)
Check if is Enabled.

Hi to reply to your questions.
We are using V6 on both these two machines.
It’s exactly the same on the working and the non-working.
Both of them have exactly the same hardware and the DOM is the same too.
All the hardware and the OS is 64Bit.
Both servers have raid and both have the same cards and hard drive configuration.
The only error we receive is from the BIOS saying “No bootable device is detected”
“System will enter the BOIS setup utility”
That’s what is causing the problem everything is the same and yet one works and one will not boot.

Hi again,

In BIOS, have you make a Load Optimized Defaults?

Before, keep a configuraton RAID....
Note on paper your RAID configuration , parameters on BIOS.
Return in BIOS and make a <Ctrl><F1> and check alll parameters about your situation.

You are not obliged to do the Load Optimized Defaults ...
If you're worried about losing data on HDD or SSD

Have you plugged on internal USB headers 3.0/2.0 ports ?
Or on internal USB headers 2.0/1.1 ports?
Have you tried all the headers? One by one?

from boot loader command line... have you a message, a error code ?

Hi
Thanks for the advice and time you have spent helping us with this but we have found a workaround to the problem.
All we did was download the Open-e OS again and put it on an ordinary memory stick  then plugged it into the USB 2.0 port on the back of the server and it booted first time.
I still do not know why one works with the internal USB header and one has to be plugged in to the port on the back, but it works and that’s fine with us.
